Councillor Vern Asselstine said that the applic- ation "looks like a way of chopping the farm into two 16-acre lots...and if we passed this severance we'd have to pass all of them that come before us." After considerable discussion council agreed to a motion which would object to the severance if it goes before the Land Division committee. ' Mayor Lawrence Malcolm suggested that the council recommend one severance of five acres of farmland and buildings with the remaining 45 acres or so left as farmland. An amendment to this effect was rejected by Council. Councillor Vern Asselstine said council should make no recommendations on something that has not been requested. "If the owner wants it, let him apply for it." Mayor Malcolm disagreed, stating that it would be proper for council to make the recommendation of one severance of five acres. Fuel Oil A request by the Caesarea Hall board to be allowed to purchase heating oil for the hall through the Township was granted. Being included in the total oil delivery for the Township would reduce the rate to the Community Hall. The hall is being used at times by the Caesarea fire fighters for meetings and training programs. Election Act Council took note of an information letter from provincial treasurer Darcy McKeough which outlines the proposed changes to the municipal elections procedures which are now in legislative form before the provincial parliament. The major change proposed would be to shift the election date to the third Monday in November, and candidates would no longer be required to list their occupations on the ballots. Although the letter from McKeough's office asked for comments from the municipality, council decided not to make any formal comments on the proposed changes.
