Mr. Gibson's involvement at the retail marketing level is one part of a four-prong- ed campaign the provincial government is setting up to help the farm producers of Ontario. One aspect will be an information unit to gather, publish and distri- bute statistical and other data on such things as "prices and world market trends; for use by the prod- ucer and all others involv- ed in the food business. A second area to be given consideration is a review of tariff structures with the aim of revising some agree- ments to make them' more equitable for the Ontario farm producers. He has had 20 years exper- ience in the package food business including three years as vice president and general manager of the grocery division of General Foods of Canada. He has had similar consumer pro- duct marketing experience with Salada Foods and Colgate-Palmolive. While stating that this experience provides him with a good understanding of marketing techniques at the consumer level, he admitted that the program for the provincial govern- ment will be breaking new ground. There will be an evaluation of its effective- ness after about a year, and if the results are positive, it would probably become an ongoing program, Once the initial proposal is completed by Mr. Gibson, an ad agency will be hired to work on the promotional aspects of the program, and he will also get support and assistance from the various departments within the agriculture department. In talking about his new appointment, Mr. Gibson stressed that the word "Marketing" in this in- stance, should not be con- fused with the various marketing boards and agencies that have already been set up. There are over 40 girls competing for the Provincial title. The winner is then a full time employee of the Board for one year. -Mary is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Wetheral. Mary has very capably represented the dairy farmers in her area at various functions, banquets, parades, fair openings, 4-H meetings and has visited over 20 schools in Durham ion. This is one of the main projects of the County Milk Committee. The Milk Committee and Mary's friends wish her the best of luck in the compe- tition for the Ontario crown.
