Artificial ice fund raising campaign in Blackstock A Mardi Gras night Sep- tember 16 complete with band and games of chance will kick off a two-week fund raising drive to raise money for the installation of artificial ice-making equip- ment in the Blackstock Arena, ~ The Mardi Gras, to be held at the Arena in Black- stock will feature a live band, bar, food booths and games of chance for those who wish to tty their luck. Organizers of the Ice Fund Campaign say that about $18,000 will have to be raised through public dona- tions. Following Mardi Gras, an intense door-to- déor blitz will be conducted -- for two weeks, The total cost to refurbish the arena has been estimat- ed at $60,000. with $32,000 coming from provincial grants such as Wintario and the Community Centres program, and $9600 coming from Scugog Township. The ice-making equip- ment has been purchas- ed from Orono for $15,000 and if the fund raising cam- paign goes as planned or- ganizers expect it will be installed and ice in the arena by December 15. Their first game from the results of the first draw, placed them against the Ux- bridge Purples who were 3rd in the league. - After an exciting two twnety minute ends there was a tie of 0-0. The boys then entered into overtime play of two ten minute ends. In the last Robert Myers was all smiles as he registered for Minor Hockey last Saturday afternoon. Maybe he was thinking about a future hat-trick. So once again the Bombers had to go into overtime play by this time exhausted. At the last minute of overtime play the Barons had a break- away and scored. Congratulations Red Barons. Well it's been a fantastic season having the privi- ledge of coaching the Orange Bomber Boys and girl. I'm looking forward to working with some of the older boys next season and last but not least to our goalkeeper Jay Branton who through the whole sea- son only let in two goals and' then 2 more in the cup play - well done Jay.
