PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, Oct. 5, 1977 -- 23 Puppetree in Town Hall How many of us have tried to remember the old adage "slow and steady wins the "race" - and have recalled that the saying originates from one of the most famous of Aesop's fables, "The Tortoise and the Hare? Those who feel it is impor- tant that the widsom and humour of the Fables is passed on from generation to generation, and those who just love puppets, will enjoy taking their families to TV Puppetree's performance of 'Aesop's Fables" on Friday, October 7 at 2 p.m. at Town Hall, 1873. TV Puppetree will alsc give a performance of "Pis- tachio'" at 7 p.m. the same day. Pistachio is the story of a puppet who, through his experiences, turns into a real boy. TV Puppetree, based in Tottenham, Ontario is run by Tom Vandenburg. The Scugog performances are sponsored by the local library and the Centreal Ontario Regional Library System, with an Outreach Ontario grant from the Min- istry of Culture and Recrea- tion. Admission is free to both performances. are "The Tortoise and the Hare", "The City Mouse and the Country Mouse", "The Liop and the Mouse" and "The Spider and the Fly". "Pistachio" is based on the famous story of Pino- cchio by Carlo Collodi, and is described as 'fun show, delightful to watch and a good introduction to symbol- ism and allegory." TV Puppetree has per- formed "Aesop's Fables" more than 600 times for audiences across Ontario - and "Pistachio" almost as often. '"The Outreach Ontario grant gives us access to a wide variety of performers,' said Scugog's Chief Librar- ian Mrs. G. Milne, "and we felt that TV Puppetree would probably appeal to the widest number of people." More information on the performances can be ob- tained by calling the library at 985-7686.
