The firm will continue to operate in Port Perry, with the legal work being handled by Mr. Harris' brother Robert. And it is expected that a second Perry above Brock's de- lawyer will be brought into the firm once Mr. Harris retires. . Although officially retir- ing at the end of December, Mr. Harris said last week that he will be spending the month of January wrapping up, the details before head- ing to the south for a couple of months with his Evelyn. Mr. Harris graduated in 1941 from Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto, and spent his entire legal career in Port Perry after getting out of the Canadian Army at the end of the last war. In a brief interview last wife Mr. Harris served several years on the public school board in Port Perry includ- ing a time as chairman. He was also a village councillor for six years and deputy reeve for two years. He fought two provincial elect- jon campaigns under the Liberal banner, losing both time to Dr. Matt Dymond. And while Mr. Harris will be retiring after more than 30 years in the legal profes- sion, his secretary Miss Ethyl Dodd will continue to work for the- firm. He said that if he had any one piece of advice to offer a young man or woman contemplating a legal career it is that 'you don't start to learn until you leave school, and that a law career is more than just a diploma and putting out a shingle." The elder Mr. Harris who first came to Port Perry in 1900 opened an office above the present Becker's store on Queen Street and moved down the street a few years later after being burned out in a fire.
