The seminar, which is ex- pected to cost the Region close to $10,000, was suggest- ed by Durham's industrial officer .Bob._ Nicol who will. © attend along with adminis- trative officer Bob Mac- Adam, and development. director © Dr.- Mofeed Michael. _The politicians who will make the trip for the semi- nar from May 23-26 are regional chairman Walter Beath, and Oshawa Mayor Jim Potticary, Whitby mayor Jim Gartshore and - Pickering mayor Jack Anderson. The decision to'send a delegation to the European' seminar is part of a two-year industrial promotion "cam- paign by Durham Region which will cost $250,000. Of this total, grants from the provincial govern- ment will pay for $165,000. The decision to send the politicians from Durham .was taken at a meeting of Regional Council last month. Council decided that Chair- man Beath should-make the trip because he is the head of the council and can speak for the wi Region, while the mayors represent the three municipalities which have _ the most industrial land ready for new occupants. While' most regional councillors supported the decision to send the six-man delegation, Oshawa council- lor Margaret Shaw strongly "opposted the frip on the grounds that the Region can't afford it and the pro: vincial y government main- tains trade missions in Europe designed to attract . new industry to the province. ° Manchester news Mrs. Ruby Fielding Church Sunday January 8 at 11:15 a.m. Rev.
