Three games, three wins Pacers on top of league by Glenn Geer Port 8 - Orono 0 On Jan 2 the Grant Menzies Pacers Midget club travelled to Hampton arena to take on the Orono midget club and came home with an eight to zero victory. The Orono club were never in the game as the Pacers controlled the game from start to finish and the score could have been much higher with a little luck around the net. George Burnett with two, Darrin Jobb, Dave Canning, Michael Geer, Robert Kemp and Rob Cannon scored for the Big Red Machine. Port 5 - Bay Ridges 3 On Jan 3 the Grant Menzies Pacers hosted the minor midgets from Bay Ridges for an exhibition game with the Pacers com- ing out top five to three. The Pacers took a four to nothing lead but then they became careless to allow Bay Ridges to score three goals. George Burnett with four and Darrin Jobb did the scoring for the Big Red Machine. Port 5 - Newcastle 1 On Thurs, Jan. 5 the Grant Menzies Pacers travelled to Bowmanville to - play the hard hitting New- castle club and came home with a five to one victory. The Pacers need these victories in the last four or five league games to hold on to first place over all in the league and they came up big in this important game. : Robert Kemp with two, George Burnett with two and Dennis Franssen showed the power of the Big Red Mchine with three goals. The next game for the Pacers is an exhibition game at the old arena 'against Woodville at seven o'clock on Thurs. Jan. 12 with the next league game not until Thursday, Jan. 26 at 8:15 p.m. wien they host Orono for the last time this season. Defeat Bowmanville continued Ferguson, assists going to Ian Dickson and Howard Lee for the first of the three, Mark Farrell assist- ing "the second and Ian Dickson and Darren Desautels the third. This victory can be acknowledged because of great team effort on every player's part. On Sunday, Jan. 8 Port Perry's Stones travelled to meet Whitby in Brooklin. Going down fighting, Port Perry played a hard fought battle against very strong opponents. In the first period the Stone's took a lot of hard checks but fought right back with great plays by the defensemen, Steve De: - Haas, Vaughan McKee, Kevin Fowler and Mike Cleveland, and>great goal- tending by Paul Bateman. Thus kept it a scoreless first period. Port Perry slackening off slightly gave Whitby an edge and taking advantage of this Whitby managed to get five goals in the second. Port Perry hanging in there got rolling again in the third setting up some terrific scoring opportuni-. ties but to no avail. Whitby getting many shots on net only .managed to score twice, as a result of super work by the defense and goaltender Paul Kingston. Port Perry working hard still fell in defeat to Whitby with a score of 7-0. Suffers first defeat by Scott Wilbur The Port- Perry Emiels Place Juveniles suffered their first defeat of the season to Oshawa 7-3. Port finally ran into a team that could play hockey as they fell behind 5-0 before they could turn around. Mark Lee, Tim Kane and Henry Freiter scored for Port.
