DEES 7 Lott BF New apartment Continued from n page 1 Perry sewage lagoon system. This expansion is scheduled to take place this year and the contract is' expected to be approved at the Regional level in March or April. The sewage lagoon expansion contract for Port Perry is one of nine sewer and water projects awaiting approval by. the Durham Region council, and Region- al councillor Reg Rose said Monday night that it is "very likely" the Port Perry con- tract will get approval. In a brief interview outside council chambers, Mr. Long- muir said once the final approvals and agreements have been worked out with the municipal government, construction of two of the apartment buildings could get underway] almost immediately, and construct- jon of the third building would start the following year. Mr. Longmuir said the - plans unveiled two-bedroom units would be close to 1000 square feet in size and rents would range from about $300 per month upwards to more than $500 'per month for the more luxurious units. Mr. Longmuir said he was excited' about the plan and the positive initial reaction from members of council. Development of the parcel of land has been in the works for more than four years with at least three different plans for multi-unit dwell- ngs. None of the previous development proposals had been entirely satisfactory to members of the local council. Once the final site plan and other agreements have been worked out between the local council and the builders, the development will be subject to the local lot levy charge of $1000 per unit plus a local hydro levy of $100 per unit. There is also a regional levy which amounts to about $1,000. per unit. Scugog council has recom- mended that the Cartwright Senior Citizens Club not have to pay a $10 rental fee for use of the old town hall building in Blackstock for the Club's weekly euchre parties. The request was granted Monday evening after a dele- gation of seniors from the Cartwright Club told council that it cannot afford to pay the $10 rental fee, and that if forced to do so the euchre parties would have to be discontinued. Council agreeq to wave the rental fee requirement, for the time being, anyway, and also recommended that the management of the old town hall building in Blackstock be turned over to a new committee made up of two members of Scugog council, and one representative from the Senior Citizens and one from the Victorian Women's Institute, two organizations which use the building. The building is presently managed by the Community Centre Committee in Black- stock and a unanimous decis- ion by this committee last fall requested the $10 rental fee from the Seniors for the Tuesday night euchre parties, effective January 1. Councillor Vern Assel- stine, who is a member of the Committee told council Monday night that the reason for the $10 per week rental fee was to help cover operating costs of the old building. And councillor Asselstine added that the Committee felt the Senior Citizens Club should be required to pay when they use the hall for an event where admission is charged. Other organizations such as guides and scouts pay the fee when they use the hall and charge admission for an event. Mr. Bert Gibson, who represented the Cartwright seniors at the meeting Monday night, told members of council that the Club showed a profit of $179. last year (after all other expenses) and that the club Winter Jackets Winter Boots Fleece Lined A a A a. The decision to close cer- tain stores an extra day each week has already created some protest in affected municipalities, especially when the forced closing falls on a day where it could be detrimental to business in general in the commercial district.
