ah lz A 2 Wah S 14 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, Feb. 15, 1978 PPHS Winter by Sheila O'Reilly After an exhilerating afternoon of fun and frolic the results are in. The Students at Port Perry High are winners! We had a stupendous turnout for our carnival and I think every- one had fun. On a smaller scale, events for the after- noon went as follows: In the three legged race we had Wade Oosterman and Mike Hamilton in 1st pace, followed by Eddie Wright and Mike Barton, Leslie Forder and Eric Smith and finally Trisha Fewer and Peter Smith. Next, the chariot race made a big hit. The Grade 13's team of Phil, Jay, Stu C., Willie, Kimbo, Suds, Ron, Derek and Toot placed first and beat the grade 12's. Well done guys! Froni year two, Bob Ire- land and Tim Bower cap- tured the egg from 38% yards to receive 1st prize. Jack Wanninkof won the tobacco spitting and Sandy Curl along with Scott Kuyt sawed the best log! Greg Kroonenburg won the bubble gum blowing contest in the cateteria. Mr's Wyz and Reed were foiled in their attempt to reach stardem in the 2 legged race. Get 'em next time boys! Students and teachers made good use of the snow this year for sculptures, and we all agreed - they were excellent. First place went to Arcy and his students for their "Dragon". The "Tractor" created by the Junior Farmers gang plac- ed second followed by the Carnival Indian head by the grade 11 team. Crystal Menzies and Paul McQuinn won guest passes to the dance as best dressed Indians. In the Senior de- partment, Dave Gribben, Mr. Dooley also had an honourable mention for his costume. (He didn't want a pass for the dance!) - All contestant 'winners won prizes of wagon wheels and official P.P.H.S. milk mugs. Our dance featured the "Stampeders" and was a great success. This, Saturday is our Regional Student Council executive meeting for Dur- ham County, hosted by Port Perry High School. We'll entertain our fellow members with skating on Lake Scugog and then back The three-legged race is no mean feat under the best of conditions, and in deep snow it is downright difficult. Debbie and Sandy Murdock were obviously having a good time of it, anyway. Concentration. That's the secret, and Alison 3 McNab seems very intent as she wields a hammer in the nail-pounding contest. Photos by John McClelland Finishing dead last in a two-chariot heat didn't to our library for the meet- ing. The girls volleyball teams are still in the thick of things and doing very well (even though they're losing than they more should, ~~: Fever they're having fun!). The junior boy's basket- ball team travelled to Orillia last Saturday, and in the end lost an exciting game 'to McLaughlin by 4 points. VY 4 Don't forget the next dance on March 10th. The group remains a surprise! Carnation sales went well this week. A bargain and a surprise for P.P.H.S. students. Our cupids had fun delivering them too! We hope, everyone made use of an excellent idea. If this was your only chance - you blew it! wy § a a : i 5 La -- -- Kim Owen and Gina Brinkman ham it up for the camera prior to the start of the three-legged race. >) > seem to bother these students in the "chariot pull" VF Those wheels on this chariot don't look like they were made for heavy sleddin' through deep snow. & Hu ) 9
