10 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, Feb. 22, 1978 Cartwright H.S. Winter Carnival, Heart Contest With P.D. day Wednes- day and Winter Carnival Friday, last week was not too hard to take. The stu- dents congregated in the lab for "the crowning of the Carnival King The King for 1978 is Mark Vince and his princes are Peter Duivesteyn and Doug Larmer. Mark declared the Carnival open and the day of invigorating activities got underway, First, the traditional tug-a- way - the Ali-kat boys came out on top and 'the Ookpik girls placed first in their competition. A series of events put together made up the obstacle relay - including three-legged races, toboggan pulling, stick handling a puck in snow and numerous other paradoxical mano- euvres. With all house members combining their efforts, it turned out the Tiger boys and Ookpik girls were victorious and also quite exhausted. "In the afternoon broomball was played in the rink and floor hockey in the rec. centre. The Alikat girls won both Trisha Sleep from Year 2. The winners were presented with beautiful gifts and we wish to acknowledge dona- tions from the following persons and businesses. Thompson's Village Market, Becker's - Blackstock, Dow- son's Red and White, Guar- dian Drugs, [.G.A., Sted- man's, Doug Larmer's Amway, Barry VanCamp, Pentland's and a very special thank you to Elea- nor"s Flowers who donated corsages for all the finalists and the floral bouquets for the winners. Since February is heart month the students of C.H.S. went out canvassing for the Heart Fund. With close to 25 people on hand we managed to cover most of the township on Sunday.
