2 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, Mar. 1, 1978 Hockey tickets, cheap Pssst. cheap? } If you want to see the Toronto Marlies play this Sunday, chances are Scugog Township will have a Wanna buy a ticket to a hockey game, ticket for you, in the reds, and at a bargain basement ~ price. . ont The Township bought a block of 44 tickets recently and had planned to take the members of a minor hockey team to the game on Sunday as recognition of the team's achievement last year in the all-Ontario playoffs. It seems, however, that the players from last year's team are presently involved in hockey playoffs and most of them are unable to get to the Marlies game this Sunday. The problem of the surplus tickets came to light at" the regular council meeting Monday night as council- lors Richard Drew and Jerry Taylor informed council that the 44 tickets which have been bought and paid for at $1 each are now going begging. The Township is going to attempt this week to get a refund on the tickets from the Marlies hockey club. As for the players for whom the tickets were intended, they are still going to get a reward for last year's performance in the form of individual plaques from Scugog Township. But in the meantime, there is that surplus of tickets and game time is 2:00 P.M. Greenbank | Around The Township "4H news By Suzanne Sulnier Press Reporter Greenbank 4-H is off to a good start with three meet- ings already gone. We have nine members. Connie Carr, Lana Perry, Carla Dempsey - Treasurer; Suzanne Saul- nier - Press Reporter; Dawn Meisner - President; Jenni- fer Baird, Carol Sturman, Cheryl Standish and - Bev. Hill. Our leaders are Mrs. Couperthwaite and Mrs. McKean. In the project "Focus on Living" we will learn such things as baby- sitting, government, our environment, safety in the home and food and fitness. One of our meetings will be a field trip. Each girl must make an article quilted, knit- ted or crocheted. It should be a worthwhile project. Ajax liquid waste disposal site Continued from page 1 side the municipality would have use for such a facility, and also the kinds and amounts of liquid wastes that these industries have for disposal. If both studies indicate that the proposal is feasible, Mr. Beath suggest- ed that it could be in operat- ion by the end of 1979. Ajax Mayor Clarke Mason attended the news confer- ence and expressed a gen- eral agreement with the plan, but he did say that the large industrial area that" could be served by the facil- ity concerned him, and that the municipality of Ajax would want to be assured that there would be no ad-' verse affects on the immed- iate area. The Duffin Creek plant sits on about three acres of land, and is. easily access- ible by rail and by road from the 401 highway. There is land zoned and serviced for industrial de- velopment in the immediate area. Some of the wastes mentioned last week which could be treated by such a facility come from industr- ies such as metal process- ing, paints and food produc- tion. The treatment would be done by a process called batching, where the toxic. material is stored in holding tanks, treated or neutraliz- ed and then disposed into the "conventional sewer system. Snow removal by-law Continued planned construction this summer of a sidewalk along Highway 7A would be a "waste of money' if the sidewalk was not kept clear of snow in winter. A snow removal by-law if enacted would require pro- perty owners to keep the sidewalks in front of their property clear of snow. The Please make note that the Scugog Ministerial Associ- ation will be meeting on Wednesday, March 1, 1978 at St. John's - Presbyterian - Church." ' During discussion on the issue there was some con- cern about how such a by- law would be enforced and: whether it would apply to all streets, and whether it would apply in the smaller ham- lets throughout Scugog Township. 91 Queen Street - Stationery & Office Supply Port Perry, Ont. 985-8123 A Division of Port Perry Star Co.
