2 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, Mar. 8, 1978 Wilson seeks Lib. nomination A 54-year old surgeon from Cobourg will be seek- ing the Liberal Party nom- ination for the riding of Durham-Northumberland. Dr. Ian Wilson made the announcement Tuesday and resigned from his post as president of the Liberal Association for the riding, a position he had held for the last three years. In announcing his intent- . tion to seek the nomination, he cited national unity as the main issue facing Cana- dians today. He said the problems with the economy and unemployment are also crucial, but suggested they would improve once the national unity crisis has been resolved. If successful in winning the nomination, it will be his first venture into the political arena at the nation- al level. A resident of Cobourg for the last 12 years he has served on the Northumber- land-Newcastle board of educatfon for six years in- cluding one term as chair- man. Fluently bilingual, Dr. Wilson spent much of his life in the = province of Quebec. He studied. medi- cine and surgery at uni- versities in both Ontario and Quebec and saw service with the RCAF during the last war. He and his wife Kathy have four children. Driver charged A two car accident March 2 at the intersection of Lilla Street and Highway 7A resulted in a charge of making an improper turn against a Port Perry area man.
