Mr. Scott has been saying this all day. He's right. We are happy to hear it! It's close to the end of this year, but we're all ready to begin the next. On Friday, our next year's ex- ecutive student council had their first meeting. Kathy Smith, president for next year, instructed the mem- bers of the council to pre- pare a calender for the events that will lead up to Christmas. It is expected that next year's student council will do a tremen- dous job. The girls' archery team placed first in L.0.S.S.A. on Thursday. The girls' team is: Shelley Yurko, Leslie Forder, Della Griffen, and Charlene Greenley. The boys' team placed second. It was the team of Gord Simmonds, Mike Freeman, David Leslie, Leon Tapper, Tedd Green, and Ron Has- lan. Their. hardworking coach was Mr. London. Con- gratulations to all!!! Friday was the last day to apply for your school letter. You had to have sixty points to receive your junior letter, and one hundred points to receive your senior letter. For the past week, the courtyard has been open. Durham graduates A total of 463 students, Durham College's largest graduating class ever, re- ceived their graduation dip- lomas and certificates at the tenth annual convoca- tion held Saturday, May 27 at the Oshawa Civic Audi- torium. Wearing ceremonial gowns for the occasion the graduates came from many points in and beyond the Durham Region. On Friday, June 2, Mr. Bill McMurty" will be com- Explorers hold closing banquet By Sadie Hobbs The Port Perry Explorers "Group closed another suc- cessful year on Wednesday, May 24 by having a pot-luck supper in the St. John's Church Hall. Guest speak- er for the evening was Mrs. Elizabeth Fulford who gave an interesting talk to the children and their mothers about the Central Seven Association for the Mentally Retarded after which the Chief Explorer, Julie Wil- liamson, presented Mrs. Fulford with a cheque for the Association. Two Explorers, Julie Williamson and Kevin Hobbs, graduated from the group and were each pre- sented with a certificate and an "E" pin. There were three Explorers presented with their first pins - Nat- alie Franssen, Lisa St. John and Kelly Smith. Merit Stars were presented as fol- lows: First Red Rose Mosher, Paige Whyte and Sonya Whyte. Second Red - Dory Fulford, Debbie Var- ty, Susan Williamson, Dar- ryl, Flewell and Andrew Kentrer. First Blue - Korin Drew. Second Blue - John Moore, Andrea Hobbs, Diane Varty, Corrie Gibson, and Kelly Storry. Second Gold Star - Kevin Hobbs. In addition to the Stars, prizes were presented for perfect attendance and the Explorers who received them were Korin Drew, 'Brenda Gundry, Dory Ful- ford, Andrea Hobbs, Kevin Hobbs, Julie Williamson and Susan Williamson. The Explorer Group is inter-denominational and in- vites boys and girls from ages9 to 12 years old to join them on September 13th, 1978 when we will start a- nother year of explorations.
