/ St {2 LER 4 L5P) i ait Pa hu -. WN Ne aaa aa aE Prince Albert news by Ruth Bonnell For all you folk who sta- yed home Monday evening from the Musical Program, you really missed a treat. It was a very warm and humid evening but the pro- gram was kept light and airy. The choir sang many old favorite songs. Ann Kinnunen sang in a beautiful voice, a solo "I'm Gonna Write Myself a Letter," and Beth Pereman favoured the audience with her solo "The Games People Play." Migon Mayneord, from Peterborough, treated us to ching quite unique. She vhistled to the song "In My Garden." Each whistle Handicraft by B. Deeth Latcham Centre was again filled with the bountiful ®handiwork of the Louise Pat terson Guild on Saturday, June 3, for the Guild's An- nual Show and Sale. A Christmas Corner was featured, complete with Christmas Trees and Imagi- native, eye-catching hand- crafted decorations. A Guild member was on Hand to explain that the decorations were so simple to make, even children can fashion «them from bits of yarn, felt, straw, beads, etc. sounded like a beautiful bird. The song was so lovely, you were able to let your mind go. It was like sitting in the middle of a beautifully treed garden and all the trees were filled with birds just singing their hearts out. It was unfortunate that Mr. Henk, the organist, who was to perform on the organ was involved in a car acci- dent on the previous evening. In spite of this, we had the best entertainer anyone could ask for. The substitute they provided for Mr. Henk was our own Dr. Tom Millar, an extremely talented pia- nist. Although Dr. Tom couldn't stay too long, he played many choice pieces of music.on the organ. 1 only wish we could have detained him a little longer. Many thanks to Dr. Tom Millar, the orchestra, the choir and all who participa- ted. And we give our special thanks to Mrs. Hunter, for an making possible such an enjoyable evening. The Port Perry Nursery School will have a registra- tion and visiting day on June "14th, for all the new Septem- ber children entering nur- sery school. Three year olds will go between 10 and 11 a.m. and the 4 year olds will visit from 1 to 2 p.m. This day gives the children a chance to become familiar with what they will be doing in the fall. While the parents register and have coffeee, the children can play with the toys, paint and paste. Joan Healey, the full time supervisor and teacher will be there in the morning and afternoon, along with the rest of the staff. Afternoon tea was served and the flower bouquets on the table were also made by the members. Many of the Guild mem- bers are proficient in more than one craft, as they learn and teach each other. For example, Lillian Smith teaches Macrame, Sandy Sinclair teaches Bragello embroidery and Dorothy Naples teaches hooked rug - making. But there were many other examples of these ladies' talents on show, as well as a good variety of other members work. It really is a show that should not be missed by those who enjoy and appre- ciate handicrafts, old and new. It takes hard work and many talents to hold an annual show with articles that have never been shown previously. A historical Scrap Book about the Guild and its members was also on display. That creative lady, Leona Butson, displayed delightful stuffed animals and dolls. Marjorie Williams and Phyllis Hamilton demonstrate the art of rug hooking at the Louise Patterson Guild annual craft show held Saturday at Latcham Center in Port Perry. re CONTACT US NOW FOR ALUMINUM SIDING When Men & Material are Available! Wood-working was a new craft displayed this year. Quilting, spinning, macrame and rug hooking were demo- nstrated by members. Articles in this show that were hooked showed an ex- cellent variety of techniques. There were fine examples of reverse hooking and sculp- tured hooking as well as home dyeing, and original designs. Outstanding in the rugs, were the Oriental: and the Eskimo wall hangings, pictures, chair seats, pillows a free standing work-bag were some of the other hook- ed items. Broomstick lace afghans, and knitted and crocheted throws and bedspreads were also tastefully displayed. Quilts on view were appli- qued and one was made in a beautiful bird print done in _ trapunto. Groups of ladies meet reg- ularly to work at their va- rious crafts, such as quilting and hocking, just as women have done in the past,- énjoy- ing each other's company and help in creating lasting works of art. The Guild meets monthly, and celebra- ted its thirteenth anniver- sary in February. The Presi- dent, Christine Orlob greeted the many visitors to the show.
