NT nas Consumer and Corporate Affairs has issued a warning to campers that an open fire in or near a tent can create a serious fire hazard. It's possible for "a non- flame retarded cotton tent to burn to the ground in as little as 45 seconds. a Infact, any cotton tent that hasn't . been treated with flame retardants will ignite easily and burn rapidly when exposed to an open flame or other ignition source. Simi- larly, nylon tents can be ignited but will burn much < ~ INSTALLATION BY EXPERTS 129 Dunnington Dr. Py 1 Scarborough, Ont. + 698-4601 BRUNO'S CARPET SERVICE Broadioom Specialists - Wall to Wall Carpets & Rugs - . Even after they are trea- ted with flame retardants at the factory, cotton and nylon tents are not fireproof -- the process only makes them more resistant to ignition pen fires and ensures they will not burn as readily. LOC THO .COMPANY PORT Pi. KRY STAR -- Wednesday, July 19, 1978 -- 31 Senior citizens by Marion King Once again, Mr. and Mrs. Loren Stanton opened their lovely island home for the square Dancer's Picnic on July 5. A lovely afternoon was spent down by the lake and-at five o'clock, we went - - to their recreation room where a beautiful supper 'was served buffet style. After supper, Leona enter- tained us with some beauti- ful organ music and a lovely _ picnic was brought to a close. Thanks so much folks. On July 12, at three o'clock at the Latcham Centre we held our Senior Citizen's Pic- nic. Jeanette de Suza, a granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dearborn entertained us with some lovely accor- dian music. Then the committtee in charge of games took over and to see Mr. Kerry and Mrs. Campbell getting dressed up in ladies and mens clothes was a scream. He had the garters up if you . please on his undergarments and Lorena had her under- clothes outside her regular attire. We had a beautiful picnic supper for around 100 Senior Citizens at 5 o'clock. Some awards were given to our Choir leader, our Square Dance leader, our oldest person Mr. Baker and an award to Mrs. Stanton for having the Square Dance picnic. At seven o'clock, we had a beautiful mock-wedding with Mac Whybrow as our -nfini- ster, Florence Middleton and Roy Grierson as. bride and groom. Marjorie McCombe, the bride's mother wailed all through the wedding while -her-- -husband- ~dloyd . King LIT TTS Sa ii Church tried to comfort her. Doris Grierson, groom's mother, kept telling her son how much more money he'd have if heshadn't had his women affairs. Marion King was the - Objector and almost had Mac calling the wedding off in her favour. -, Mayor and Mrs. Malcolm, Rev.. and Mrs. Clarke and Jessie Robertson, the first President of the club were guests. The Distinguished guests were Mr. and Mrs. Stan Ploughman, Mr. and Mrs. Curt Whipper, Mr. Healy as Mrs. Healy was ill, Mrs. Beacock as Mr. Beacock was ill, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Kerry who were also our singers for the wedding sing- ing 'Daisy Daisy' and Give my love to Margeurite", Mr. and Mrs. Everett Hooper, Mr. and. Mrs. Howard Mec-. Millan, Mr. and Mrs. Percy Willis. Due to illness Mr. and Mrs. Mel James and Mr. and Mrs. C.L. Glass could not be with us. These ten couples were all married over fifty years varying from 50 years to 59 years being Stan and Flossie Ploughman whose wedding day was July 12. Mac with the assistance of Mayor Malcolm presented letters from Allan Lawrence, M.P. congratulating, them: also one of the Mayors own pens. : A wedding cake made by our own Mildred Thompson was served with ice cream - by Leona's group and a real good picnic came to a close. Who says Senior Citizen's don't have fun? The Port Perry Star Photographer came and took pictures of our honoured guests. Services __ THE UNITED CHURCH OF CANADA PORT PERRY CHARGE . Rev. R.
