Junior 'Ranger program Each year since the 1950's, the Ministry of Natural Re- sources has operated. a Junior Ranger Program in Ontario. The objective of this pro- gram is to supply 17 year old male and female students a working and learning ex- perience in a wide variety of ministry projects' and pro- grams as well as give a better appreciation of the management of our natural resources. The Junior Ranger Pro- gram for 1978 is employing approximately 1200 male 727 female students at $10.00 per day plus room and board in the 74 camps across the province. ' Lindsay District for its second year will be operat- ing Coldsprings Junior Ran- ger Camp, a 24-man camp located in the Ganaraska Forest. Coldsprings Camp consists of an office, bunk- "house, cookery and gym- nasium surrounded by a ten acre field. The program is supervised by 1 camp fore- man, 4 sub-foreman and a COOK. . The Junior Rangers in Lindsay District will be working for each of the Divisions, Fish and Wildlife, Forests-Field Service, Parks and Lands-Mines as well as the Ganaraska Region Con- servation Authority and the Orono Nursery. Their work will involve projects relating to fish and wildlife manage- ment, fire control during prescribed burns, park development. maintenance, trail cutting, river and stream improvement as well as many other ministry programs. One day per week is de- signated as an educational day, where supervisors and staff of each division of the ministry explains the func- tions and the role their division plays in the manage- ment of our natural re- sources. Tours of various ministry operations are arranged including fish hatcheries, wildlife labora- tories, and tree nurseries.
