The smart play selection of quarterback Gord .Sim- monds and tough defence were keys to the win. The game was played in a steady downpour. After a scoreless first quarter, Simmonds scored Port's first points of the season on a Quarterback Sweep. Simmonds connect- ed with Greg Rodd for a two-point conversion. Dunbarton closed the gap in the third quarter with minating in a touchdown. They missed the extra point. The Redman explosion began with the first play of the last quarter as Quarter- back Simmonds scored his second major. Controversy arose on the extra point play after a Port two-pointer was disallowed because it was deflected by one Port Perry receiver into the arms of another in the end zone. he A ees RNS 2 RL {on Sed i as i Sah AY <> The first game of last Sunday's Flag Football Sada alg on action saw the Lions dump We the Sooners 32 to 7. The attempt was then missed. The third Redman touchdown came when Sim- monds threw to Greg Rodd in the end zone. The last six . points came on a fluke play when the Dunbarton defen- der deflected the ball into the out-stretched hands of a diving Greg Fedyk. The Junior team played to an exciting 6 to 6 draw with Ajax in the second game. It was a game of turnovers as the Redmen recovered five Ajax miscues including the opening kickoff. Port committed four turnovers including two interceptions. A Port Perry fumble pro- duced Ajax's touch down. Running Backs Brian Barr and Ted Wilson carried the majority of the offence which was spearheaded by diminutive QB Mike Barton. The one area of the Junior team game which need work is the Special Teams. There was no pressure at all put on the opposing kicker and Port Perry's punting unit was very weak. The Seniors play the next game Wednesday, Septem- ber 27th in Uxbridge. Sooners - Seahawks Flag football winners the Seahawks winning streak.
