McBride- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wed., December 6, 1978 -- 19 Impressive win by Jr. Redmen over Uxbridge by Danny Millar The junior boys basketball team of Port Perry High School won its second straight pre-season game with an impressive 60-46 victory over the Tigers of Uxbridge. The Redman just did not look sharp. George Burneet and Bob Ireland, usually Port's better players, missed shots all game long. Be- cause of the lack of sharp- ness of the Port Perry team, Uxbridge was able to make the game closer than it deserved to be as it is clear the Redmen 'are a much better junior team than the Tigers. Port Perry took the lead after eight minutes despite their own weakness by the score of 16-8. The Tigers came roaring back in the second quarter with six straight points narrowing the gap to one basket. After one minute and fifty-four seconds Port Perry coach Aaron Dekker called for a time-out and whatever he good as far as the points go, because of the fact that they do not have the students to fill each event. The points are based on the overall total. First place team had a total of 251 points, and the Port Perry team. totalled 84. said to his charge obviously worked as they limited the hometown Tigers to just four points for the remainder of the first half and took a 27-18 lead into the third quarter. The game opened up in quarter three as Port took control and the contest became a wide open, fast moving affair. Both teams scored freely as the Redmen took an eight point lead into the final quarter. The final eight minutes were also wide open and high scoring, a fact which, greatly chagrined the defen- sive minded Port Perry coach. The final score showed Port with a sixteen point lead, 60 to 46. Curt Pinkowski was the high scorer for the Redmen with fifteen points and Bob Ireland had fourteen. George Burnett led the team in rebounds with sixteen, steals with five and assists with four. Cam Muir had ten re- bounds and Kevin Harris, who drew the ire of the coach all game long, had six points. Afterwards Dekker felt -that "Port could have taken command of the game early but some very poor shooting prevented this'. He also added that "Positioning was a problem."
