OS 20 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wed., December 6, 1978 MoJacks -Uxbridge 7-2 Continued lead again when MacIntyre scored at the 1:48 mark of the second before the Mo- Jacks found their skating legs and decided to take the game seriously. From that point on, the larger, heavier Port Perry squad dominated the game, constantly knocking the Uxbridge players off the puck, and hammering them along the boards and in the corners. MoJacks made it 5-2 at the: seven minute mark of the second as Mark Jobb com- pletely fooled McGibney with a hard, rising slap shot from just inside the blue line that caught the top right corner of the net. Defenseman Rob Kemp scored an unassisted goal late in the second, picking up a loose puck at the rim of the face-off circle, and drilling a low shot to the left corner. Brad Nicholson rounded out the scoring late in the game when he took a center- ing pass in front of the Uxbridge net and drifted a waist-high shot through a maze of players. For the MoJacks, Rob Greiner played a strong game, getting two assists to go with his pair of goals. He easily could have had a couple more. - Darrin Jobb also had a four point evening, while linemate Brad Nicholson earned two assists to go with his goal. This line of the Jobb brothers and Nicholson seem to be working well for coach Doug Scott. The trio are all big, strong and able to muscle their way to the puck, and Nicholson seems to be breaking out of an early season scoring slump. The MoJacks used their size and strength to good advantage Sunday night, and the heavy hitting simply took the starch out of the smaller. Uxbridge players who only had nine skaters on the ice' for the game. Referee Don Moffatt called 66 minutes in penal- ties, with 41 going to Port Perry including fighting majors to Randy Crawford and Darrin Jobb. It was not a pleasant night in the nets for Uxbridge goalie McGibney, as he faced 45 shots, many of them from in close. In addition to the peppering, McGibney was flattened on a couple of occasions when he wandered out of the goal crease. At the other end of the rink, Ray- mond Gibson faced 25 shots. i The victory keeps the MoJacks at .500 hockey this season with eight wins and the same number of losses. One of those losses came in Port Hope on Thursday night when MoJacks went down 6-3 at the hands of the steady Panthers. Mark Jobb, Bill Bridge and Gord Hintze scored for Port Perry. The MoJacks are current- ly tied for fourth place with the Lindsay Muskies who are starting to show some signs of coming alive after a very slow start. The team is now idle until next Sunday night when Stouffville « Clippers will make their first appearance of the season at the Scugog Arena. a" OEE EO Ls ZAANGH aI | HOME HARDWARE QUEEN STREET - PORT PERRY Free Draw for a VACATION icLUB GUAVA | © CHATAM BEACH, BEAVERTON TRAVEL Hardware Store Only! In so doing, they won their fourth and fifth consecutive games after dropping their opening two contests. In the first game of the tourney, the Redmen de- feated the Trojans of Mc- Laughlin 66-43. The first half of the match was probably the most ex- citing half of any Redmen game so far this year. Play was fast paced and the score remained close all the way. In fact, Port Perry did not lead until 12:25 and at the end of the half led only by an eight point margin, 38-30. Port Perry coach Aaron Dekker, feeling his team should be doing better, unloaded a verbal attack on his players at half-time. One reason Port was not doing as well as they. should have been was that one of their leading scorers, Scott Wilbur finished the game with only six points. The Port Perry Redmen that came out in the second half bore little resemblance to the Redmen of the first twenty-five minutes. They came out fired up and allowed the Trojans a mere thirteen points for the re- mainder of the game. Guard ° Greg Fedyk, who played very strongly as did Dennis § Franssen, led the team in assists with twelve. Mike Patton had the most steals (4) and Points (22). Patton along with Scott Wilbur and Gord Simmonds led in re- bounds. After the game, the coach praised the work of Dennis Franssen saying he 'showed } signs that he will be a strong addition to the team". The second game was no contest as the Redmen whipped the Lindsay Spar- Fine season for Jr. Girls by Danny Millar A very successful season reached its conclusion on Saturday, November 25th at O'Neill Collegiate for the Junior girls basketball team from Port Perry High School. They were eliminated by the Henry Street Hawks 46-42 in the semi-final of the Lake Ontario Secondary School Association tournament. Jennifer Simmonds led the Redmen in scoring with 11 points. Pam Kennedy and Barb Elliot netted five points apiece. Junior team coach Roy Clark said of the loss: 'We played well but lost. We had a good season". He felt the reason that the Hawks beat his team was that they had "too much speed." Sandy Stevenson was the high scorer for the eventual champions with ten points. In addition to the team's fine showing, Jennifer Simmonds was chosen for the all-star team prompting coach Clark to state "I don't like all-star teams but if they had to choose somebody, Jennifer was a good choice. The Senior girls basketball team ended what was a rather disappointing season by placing team captain Leslie Forder on the all-star squad. tans 86-42. Port's dominance of the contest made it a rather unspectatular game except for one instance late in the game when Port Perry's Mike Patton knocked heads with Greg Walling of Lindsay. Patton staggered around for a couple of seconds and then fell to the floor and apparent- ly blacked out. He lay there for several minutes before being removed from the court on a stretcher. He was taken to the local hospital and released about an hour later with nothing worse , than a bad headache. The result of the contest SeniorRedmenwin tournament pleased Dekker as he said the "Port team played good, tough defensive basketball right from the opening tip- off". He also added that, "George Cope is starting to scrimmage with the team". Cope is out with a knee injury. Form Durham Youth Soccer Assoc.
