ME Re NUT A Y. ~ - 18 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wed., January 31, 1979 by John B. McClelland Port Perry MoJacks went on a scoring rampage Sunday night at the Scugog Arena and blasted the Stouff- ville Clippers 14-8 in a game that meant little to either club in the point standings. With third place wrapped up, MoJacks were content to forget defensive hockey and let some of . their sharp- hy shooters fatten their in- dik dividual scoring totals in a WN game that looked more like a iy vigourous scrimmage. ag MoJacks leading scorer AR Mark Jobb racked up seven SE os - A x RT The Te wr points in the evening with four goals and three assists, while Rob Greiner nettec three goals and three assists and Phil Cochrane popped ir: 24 a hat trick and two assists. jus It was a productive week : for Jobb, who picked up four abe nro Re Lo AT ZA 0 1 ww Fn AEN HEE ad 0 or vel \ points last Thursday night in a 9-6 victory for the MoJacks over second place Port Hope, and he also had four points in a 11-4 win January 23 over the last place Uxbridge squad. The win over Stouffville Sunday night gives the MoJacks 40 points for the season, and keeps intact a winning streak that began early this month. The team has had a strong second half of the schedule after a rather mediocre start. In fact, the MoJacks have lost just two - fia games since December 3. The team has one regular schedule game left this Saturday night against Stouffville, and should have little trouble picking up a victory in that one. Stouffville Clippers netminder Bert Wensink was looking backwards most of the evening as Port Perry MoJacks romped to an easy 14-8 victory, and forward Mark Jobb [left] did a lot of AN, ba LP RES y AE 0 CAE S38 LE TAS hh DET RTT BE aad A Ma AA ed WJ) 1 Fg tt RTT EERE SRT AA ANT SOAR CE Bs LL CE SER A EP AIRE TR AY eR BN RE LY Ea A NE FREE NA NAR IEY A. MoJacks, who have been hot lately, are gearing up for the first round of the play-offs, which will get underway next week. Rob Greiner and Mark Jobb added two more in the next 90 seconds, and Jobb scored another late in the period to give MoJacks an 8-4 lead after 40 minutes of play. For Stouffville, captain Bill Meakes had a hat trick, Steve Schell netted two and singles went \to Bruce Rugalis, Jim McKay and Howie Whelan. Stouffville started the game with just eight skaters, and while they put up a decent battle in the first 20 minutes it soon became obvious they were tiring fast and were little match for the powerful Port Perry players who controlled play and seemed to be able to score almost at will. With Charlie Durward out of the line-up with knee problems, MoJacks coach Doug Scott started Ray Gibson in nets and then played Warren Nicholishen for the final 20 minutes. It was a rather tame hockey game with MoJacks being assessed just five minor penalties, and the Clippers playing penalty- free hockey for the entire match. PLAY-OFFS While MoJacks are assured of a third place finish behind Bowmanville and Port Hope, the team's opposition in the first round of the play-offs won't be known until the regular schedule winds up at the end of this week. Uxbridge is the only team that will not make the play- offs. First place Bowman- ville will have the choice of who they meet out of the bottom four teams in the standings. Port Hope will have second: choice and MoJacks third pick. The bottom four clubs are ex- vindsay. The first and second rounds of the play- offs will be best of five affairs, with the final being a best of seven. With a strong second half of the season, MoJacks "appear to be the one club in the league capable of beating the powerful Bowmanville Eagles who had locked up first place several weeks ago. Some league observers feel that - Beaverton could be a dark horse in the play-offs as that team has several hot scorers, and is tough on home ice. No matter who their opening round opponents are, MoJacks will have the advantage of the extra game on home ice because of their third place finish in the standings.
