The Port Perry team was playing without coach Arend Dekker who is ill. Paul Arculus, the Senior's co- coach, took over the team but added that the players '"'did miss Mr. Dekker."" He is not sure how long Dekker will be away. After a slow start in the first quarter in which the Redmen were outplayed and outhustled in the early going, they woke up in the last four minutes of the first period and the entire second session -to take command of the game. They held a slim 17-16 lead after eight minutes and a larger twelve point lead at half time. It appeared at this juncture that the Redmen would run the hosts right off their own court. Coach Arculus later stated that "they really came alive in the second quarter". They outscored Warblers 25-14 in that quarter. ~ In the second half the Port team seemed to fall apart at the seams when they ran into some atrocious officiating. Captain George Cope and Gord Simmonds were given technical fouls for debating calls by both referees. During one heated discus- sion when Simmonds was given his techniggl, Cope went into a rage, and Simmonds had to be re- strained. Although the officiating was bad it was not the alibi Naa ~ RVI LD for the Redmen's loss. They Sr. Redmen lose close game frustrated and began miss- were outplayed in the second "ing shots. Simmonds, Scott half and made at least twenty turnovers. They lost rebound after rebound. One bright spot was the effort of Greg Fedyk. On one play Fedyk ran into a spectator on the sidelines after chasing after a loose ball. "Greg played well" said the coach. Robert Morris also played a strong game as a substitute as he grabbed several re- bounds and made some excellent shots. Arculus was pleased with his effort stating he "supported the team well." The team encountered another problem late in the contest when they became Wilbur and Mike Patton, usually accurate marksmen 'missed often late in the match. - It was the senior's first game in nearly two weeks and Arculus felt this was the reason for the lacklustre showing. On the bad officiat- ing he felt the players "let it ~concern them too much." However, he did praise the team, The senior Redmen have three games next week and one of them is against power- house Kipling of Toronto. Kipling is headed by Enzo Spagnuolo, an excellent basketball player.
