Hat-trick for Darrin Jobb MoJacks open play-offs with imp by John B. McClelland - A seven goal scoring rampage in the second period gave Port Perry MoJacks an impressive 10-5 victory over Lindsay Mus- kies in the opening game of the best of five quarter final playoffs Sunday night at the Scugog Arena. Darrin Jobb led the MoJacks with a hat trick, but it was a short-handed goal at "the 7:26 mark of the second period by Rob Greiner that opened the scoring flood- gates. With Mark Jobb off for cross-checking, Greiner took a perfect pass from Darrin Jobb on a two-on-one break and slid the puck underneath Lindsay goalie Paul Wiltshire to give the' MoJacks a 4-2 lead at a crucial point in the contest. Three minutes later Greiner and Bill Bridge combined to score two quick goals within 10 seconds, and less than a minute affer that Darrin Jobb got his third of the evening as MoJacks broke the game wide open. Darrin Jobb opened the scoring at 11:12 of the first from a scramble in front of the Lindsay net. At the 14:33 mark Rick Dainard tied the score for the visitors with Mike Adams off for tripping. Darrin Jobb got that one back a couple of minutes later when he slapped home a loose puck from almost in the goal crease. The Muskies were still very much in the game at the 2:11 mark of the second when Bill Lockwood finished off a two on one break to knot the score at two goals each. Phil Cochrane scored what proved to be the eventual winner at 4:37 of the second when he took a pass from Greiner and Steve Jones and hit with a slap shot that appeared to deflect off a Lindsay stick in front of the net. With the score 7-2 in favour of Port Perry at the 11 ;07 mark of the second, Lindsay goalie Paul Wiltshire was pulled in favour of Kevin Elliott, and two minutes later MoJack defenseman Mike Adams scored a goal that didn't do much for Elliott's confidence. Adams lofted a lazy shot from centre ice that Elliott stabbed at with his stick and then watched trickle behind him into the net. After a hard, cleanly played first period, Muskies began to rough things up in MoJacks forward Brad N in front of Lindsay netminders the second as they trailed by several goals and this led to several penalties on both sides. There was just one fight in the game, but it was a vigourous match between Brad Nicholson and Muskie defenseman Tom Lucas, one of the biggest players in the league. Nicholson more than held his own and landed several solid punches before the linesman got them untangled. In the third period Muskies made a belated come-back - effort with two quick goals by Phil Hennessey and Bob Sinclair, who added another on a power play at 13:06. However, Brad Nicholson Mark Jobb An eight-point perfor- mance in the final league game of the season by Mark Jobb of the Port Perry MoJacks gave the individual scoring championship in the Central Junior C hockey loop. YY) doubled the cotint at 13 ;31 on a nice set-up in front of Mark Jobb and the score stayed 10-5. While MoJacks were full credit for their victory and displayed an awesome scoring punch, Muskies were by no means as bad as the score would indicate. They are a big, strong team and play a bruising, punishing brand of hockey. With forwards like Hennessey, Sinclair and Dave Webster, they have a lot of scoring punch. Coach Doug Scott juggled his forward lines somewhat during the game and as usual got solid performance from Darrin and Mark Jobb into some heavy traffic ire during opening game and Brad Nicholson. Rob Greiner and Bill Bridge worked: the puck well to- gether and clicked for several goals. Rob Kemp, who usually plays defense, saw action on the forward line, and he used his strength and long reach to good advantage in a fore-checking role. With © goalie Charlie Durward out of the line-up with knee problems, Ray Gibson is carrying the goal- tending load and he played a steady, stand-up game in the nets, making several good stops especially when Port Perry was a man short. However, penalties did hurt the MoJacks as three of the Junior C scoring champ Jobb picked up two goals and assisted on six others as the MoJacks beat the Clippers in Stouffville by a 10-8 score on Saturday night. The points give him 91 for the season, one better than -Bowmanville's Ralph ATTENTION DIABETICS! Up to $50,000. N In their last ten games of the regular season, MoJacks scored 82 goals with the line of Mark Jobb, Brad Nichol- son and Darrin Jobb coun- ting for many of them. No player in the league is more deserving of the scoring championship than Mark Jobb. He has been the inspirational leader of the MoJacks all season, killed penalties and took a regular turn on the power plays. His linemate Brad Nicholson also had a banner year, finishing among the top five scorers. In Stouffville on Saturday night, MoJacks threw caution to the wind as the team went all out to set up as many scoring points as possible for Jobb, as the game meant nothing to either team as far as league standings are concerned. Other goal scorers were Brad Nicholson, Phil Coch- rane and Darrin Jobb with two goals each, while Randy Crawford and Gorde Hintze netted singletons.
