Uxbridge wins at volleyball by Bethany Schryburt Durham Central Junior Volleyball Tournament for boys and girls was held at Cartwright Central Public School on February 19 and 21. The event was convened by Karen McLean of Lind- say, a teacher at Cartwright. Competition started first thing in the morning and the finals carried on to 6:30. It was a long day for the students, some of them going as many as seven rallies. The winning teams from the competition held at Blackstock will be representing 'Durham Central in the Durham Board of Education Regional Finals to be held in Oshawa. On Monday, February 19th, the girls tournament took place in the Cartwright Gym. Champions 'Ux- bridge Public School" guided by their coach - Jackie Sanford received the honoured pennant. Runner- up was the Sunderland Public School Team coached by Connie Dunlop. Wednesday, February 21st, the boys tournament was held in the Cartwright Gym. "Sunderland Public School" coached by Don real became the Champion team. Runner-up title went to Scott Central Public [om] (Dina free School; coached by Jim Smith. A team from Uxbridge Public School coached by Jackie Sandford [right] won the girls Durham Central In the Boys division, a team from Sunderland captured the championship under the direction of Volleyball championship last week at Cartwright Public School. Port played one of their worst games of the year and were defeated 5-2. Steven Durham and Dave Burnett scored Port's only goals with an assist going to Greg Warriner. On Friday, February 23 in the back to back play-off game with Uxbridge it was the Green Machine's turn to be in gear as they romped to a 6-1 win.
