Jerry and Mrs. Hofstetter and boys of Grace United Church, Petér- borough who are leaving Peterborough for a church in Guelph, Ontario. Congratulations to Mr. Wilbert Malcolm who observes his 87th birthday on St. Patricks Day. Recently Howard Malcolm attended a Tri County Pork Producers Meeting in Hamil- * ton while wife Eileen visited her aunt Miss Betty Whittaker. During the meet- ing or after Howard was interviewed by Hamilton T.V. and the edited version is scheduled to be shown on Sunday, March 18th at 12:45 p.m. Oh Tues. it was your scribes pleasure to tour the new Coop facilities at Camp- bellford and Madoc and the feed mill, etc. at Picton in company with members of U.C.O. staff. In the evening --it was our duty as Zone 3 U.C.O. Director to chair the Spring Zone Meeting in the Four Seasons Motel in Belleville. Over 30 delegates and directors were present from the neighbouring cooperatives -of Warkworth; Picton, Foxboro, Grafton, Campbellford and Madoc. On Thursday, our Minis- tress of the Interior and ourselves were pleased to attend the opening cere- monies of the new Campbell- ford Coop store and Lumber facilities preceeded by a noon luncheon at which all past Chairmen and guestss were honoured by the presentation of a plaque depicting the former Coop facility on Saskatoon Street - a unique (if antique) build- ing that was built in 1883. It was our pleasure to turn the key to officially open the door for their grand opening. A bronze plaque com- memorating the auspicious occasion was jointly -un- draped by Chairman of Board Ernest Thain, Mayor Baker of Campbellford and Chief Executive Officer' of U.C.0. Among the many prize winners at the bottom of the pile there emerged the "booby. prize' winners - more politely monickered the consolation prize. Guess who won that coveted award? You hit it right first time - a team skipped (?) by your humble (?) scribe morally supported by Maureen Moore, Ross- Carr and Audrie Brown, Our only excuse for our poor showing - our first time to curl for 10 years or so and our broom was left handed - I think. Anyhow despite our abject humility, this week we eat high or low on the cow - Big Macs courtesy of Mec- 'Donalds. Oh, yes, a Mec- "Laughlin. team from Cart- - wright known far and wide for their skill in horse-shoe competition was a close competitor for the honour. Judging from the" rigour mortis, that has set in a few ~of our joints and unused muscles today due to sweep- - ing, maybe we should switch to a less strenuous sport like girl or bird watching. Anyone who witnessed the interview of Howard Malcolm, Chairman of Hog Producers on the Hamilton Channel }1 on Sun. p.m. were no doubt likewise deeply impressed with Howards T.V. presence - his profes- sionalism, calm demeanor, ~ and quiet authority and poise. Well done Howard. Long time residents of this community learned with regret of the sudden passing of a former resident of this vicinity Mrs. Florence (Payne) Ferguson operated the general store at Burton, Ontario for many years - during those days prior to Chain Stores and more densely populated rural areas. Sympathy is exten- ded to their son Sydney, an old highschool collegue of ours, his wife and family.
