Ever Thus, their private showing of Eastern Canadian Folk Art at the Robert McLaughlin Gallery in Oshawa. The show, which features three rooms filled with hundreds of pieces of folk art, can be seen at the Gallery until June 2, 1979. It then travels to Hamilton, Montreal and Kitchener- Waterloo. Ralph and Pat are seen here with one of the many interesting articles from their collection. Hydro to be cut off * until deposit made The Port Perry Hydro Commission has changed its policy on service to rental units, including houses, and effective immediately, hydro will cut off when a tenant moves out, and restored only when payment of the required security deposit has been made. The decision was made at a Commission meeting April 27 and the intent is to help guarantee that the security deposit required by the Ballroom - 7 to 8 p.m. Creative Stop, DURHAM REGION . That deposit is $75 if the unit is heated electrically, and $30 for those heated by other means. . In the past, when a renter moved out of a house or apartment, the hydro was not turned off during the time the unit was vacant, and apparently some of the security deposits were not being paid. Disco- 8 to 9 p.m. While the change in policy is being advertised in this paper this week, it caught one landlord by surprise last week when the hydro into an apartment in a converted house she owns was cut off without her knowledge. The landlord was critical of the Commission for not notifying landlords ahead of time that the new policy had gone into effect. She told the Star that finding the hydro cut off in one of the apartments after the tenant had moved out was an inconvenience, but it could have had serious consequences, she added, if a sump pump was operating, or electricity was needed for some other reason while the apartment was vacant. She said she could under- stand the reasons why hydro wants the power shut off until the new tenant pays the security deposit, but said that some effort should have been made to notify the landlord. ) A spokesman for Port Perry Hydro told the Star that ads will run for two weeks in this paper notifying people of the change in policy, and also that during the winter months the Commission will make an effort to contact landlords when hydro to a rental unit is to be shut off. r V7 yh v Laat '" A} +} A, JRE at A YIPRE mE + * " . tt 7, PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, May 9, 1979 -- 3 Lake Scugog fish survey (From Page 1) long from the River may be consumed without danger, as well as carp of any size. There is no data available in the Guide for smallmouth bass larger than 18 inches. As well, there is no data available for both species of bass, muskie, or mudcats caught in Lake Scugog, and a + spokesman for the Ministry told the Star that no testing was carried out on these kinds of fish. The spokes- man could not say whether these fish are safe for un- limited consumption, but he did say that if there are chemical contaminants in a body of water, they are most likely to show up in older, larger fish.. The province-wide survey contains information on fish taken from about 250 rivers and lakes, including the Great Lakes, and says that about 15,000 fish were analyzed. Lakes and rivers selected for testing were done so on the basis of several factors such as popularity with fishermen, a suspected source of pollution nearby, and bodies of water that are open for recreational development. Copies of the Guide are available from the Ministry of Natural Resources district office in Lindsay.
