Six Port Perry athletes were entered in the East Regional meet in Brockville on Saturday, June 2nd and Patton was the only one to make it to the all-Ontarios. Patton finished fifth, the final advancing spot, out of seven competitors. The win- ners of the event were Murr- ay Morgan of Dunbarton and Delroy Nelson of Ottawa each of whom cleared heights of 1.95 meters. Patt- on's most successful jump was 1.92 meters which he made in his second attempt. Earlier in the competition - Patton had passed on two lower heights and things got a little tight when he missed his first try at 1.85. He made it in his second. He finally other high jumpers Liz and Dart, who was the only fe- male Redman in the Region- als, did not place in the midget event. She mastered the height of 1.35 meters and staved off elimination when she made 1.40 meters on her final attempt. She bowed out when she missed three times at 1.45 meters. Two triple jumpers from Port Perry had a bad day. Brett Oosterman in the Midget class did not have a jump count when he fouled on three consecutive att- empts. In the COSSA meet two weeks ago he had jump- ed 12.47 meters. Even if Oosterman had jumped ¢leanly it is doubtful that he would have caught the winn- er. Brian Bailey of Sir Wilfred Laurier in Ottawa set a new record in the event enac who set a new record of 13.40 in the senior event. Even the fifth place finisher, Tom Grace of Lindsay, leap- ed 12.73 meters. Wade Oosterman placed second in his individual heat of the senior boys 400 meters. But four times in the second heat were faster than his so he missed on his chance to go to the all-Ontarios. His time of 52.8 seconds was eight- tenths of a second behind sixth place Brock Osborne of Ridgmont in Ottawa. He was nine-tenths of a second be- hind the final qualifying spot which is quite a bit in the 400 meters. The senior relay team of Wackett, Oosterman, Patt- on, and Paul Jones put on an exciting show when they were timed at 45.2 seconds which was good enought to without obligation.
