12-- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, June 13, 1979 Yelverton and area news by Harvey Malcolm Yelverton United Church was particularly well atten- ded on Sunday. A vocal solo contributed by Mr. Douglas 'Eggins, a summer visitor from the Springwater Trailer Park, assisted by Mrs. Dorothy Draper on the electric organ was much enjoyed. Don't miss Yelverton's new innovation this year to the field of culinary delights, our first ever Pork Barbecue - chops and spare ribs with all the accessories including mouth watering desserts - all for the minimal price of $4.00 adult - (See Coming Events for details). One might surmise that there were in our community a number of distraught hog producers who fear a glut of pork on the market might affect the price to producers in a nega- tive aspect and who would go to any length (almost) to see us eat our way out of a project. And you could be right. However the U.C.W. Ladies have a reputation for providing sumptious supper meals which will certainly not be contradicted with this new venture. See you there amid the smoke and grease on Barbecue Pit "Z' or is that "X". . Welcome home to Joyce Malcolm, who returned home from hospital this week. Mrs. Audrie Brown enter- tained a collection of her in-laws on Saturday evening as dinner guests. Among those present were Mr. and Mrs. Paul Pickett and family of Toronto, Mr. and Mrs. Murray Irons and family also of Toronto and Murray's father who is vacationing here from Scotland. Con- gratulations to Paul Pickett who was recently named provincial Judge in recog- nition of his ability in legal circles. Mrs. Hazel Whittaker of Lindsay and Miss Valerje Malcolm left this week for Edmonton - Hazel to visit her grandchildren and Valerie to visit her sister Darlene and to check the employment picture there. Mr. and Mrs. Oram Moore and family attended the 25th Anniversary celebration of Mr. and Mrs. Jack McLean of R.R. Lindsay on Friday evening. On Wednesday evening a large turnout of ladies was present at the Church Hall to honour bride elect Miss Sharon Nesbitt of Nestleton who is scheduled to enter the ia for these and many more outstanding values!!! News Only 9 U.C.W. members availed themselves of the opportunity of touring A.R.C. Industries on May 31 in Lindsay. A.R.C. stands for Adult Rehabilitation Centre of which there are over 100 of these centres scattered throughout Ontario. Their goal is to meet the needs of the men- tally handicapped and to assist their trainees to - become happy contributing members of our society. Scripture - 1st Corinthians Chapter 1 verses 26-31. Linda read a poem "Just as I am' followed with the singing of a hymn and con- cluded with Prayer. The minutes were read and approved and various reports given. Bob says that turtle meat has no fishy taste whatso- ever. He describes it as similar in texture to chicken or veal, not coarse or grainy. "It is just some of the best eatin' money can buy," he says with a smile.
