Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Wright called on Mr. and Mrs. William Butler in Lon- don of Friday. Mrs. Butler's many friends from High School teaching days will be interested to know that she is well and likes to hear of Blackstock activities. Last weekend Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Dorrell of Charl- ton called in at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harold McLaughlin and Mrs. Wilbur Toms enroute to a reunion at K.AS., Kemptville. They along with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Green celebrated their 30th Reunion. Also at Kemptville were Mr. and Mrs. Richard VanCamp and Lawrence and Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Larmer who celebrat- ed their 25th Reunion at K.AS. Mr. and Mrs. Joe. Brad- burn visited their daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Claire Dunning in Ottawa over the weekend. Improved health is wished for Mrs. Tena Wolters and Mrs. Pat Sleep who have each undergone surgery this past week. Golden Wedding Anniversary A very happy event was marked on Friday, June 8, when the 50th wedding anni- versary of Mr. and Mrs. Harry McLaughlin, Nestle- ton was celebrated in the Parish Hall of St. John's Anglican Church, Black- stock. Receiving with Mr. and Mrs. McLaughlin were their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence McLaughlin, Nestleton. Their grandaughter, Lynn passed the wedding cake and their grandson Brent was in charge of the guest book. A beautiful flower ar- rangement of gold chrysan- themums and candelabra containing yellow candles graced the serving table. Pouring tea were Mrs. Lorne Pollon, Wynyard, Saskatche- wan; Mrs.Harold Burns, Scarborough; Mrs. Alma Taylor, Blackstock; Mrs. Evelyn Werry,Bowman- OR Ses ane EL RC IRERERRNN LN » AA attendance, helping to make the evening a very memor- able event. Mrs. McLaughlin was the former Bertha Hooey. Rev. W.H.J. Walker officiated at their marriage. She and Harry have lived on the McLaughlin Century Farm near Nestleton, during their entire married life. Mother and Daughter Banquet This year's banquet was opened by the playing of O Canada accompanied by Joan Grove. This was fol- lowed by Grace which was said by Ruby Parsons and a toast to the Queen. Everyone enjoyed the delicious pot luck dinner served by some fathers. Commissioner Joyce Taylor introduced the headtable. guests and toasted the Guide Movement. This was replied by Lieutenant Gunter. Moth- ers and daughters all joined in the singing of Happy Birthday to Mrs. Turner. Elizabeth Kelly toasted the Mothers and this toast was replied to be Mrs. Donna Kyte. Captain Turner reported on the Rangers' activities and made the happy aan- and made the happy an- nouncement that Lois Van- Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award by the Queen Mother on June 29th. Commissioner Taylor announced that Guiding will begin again on September 10th. Captain Sheen presented Service pins to Mrs. Locke, Mrs. DeVries, Mrs. Jamie- son, Mrs. Jordan, Mrs. Shav- er. She also announced that Mrs. Hamilton had received a Long Service Pin for 15 years of Guide leading. Various badges were presented to the girls by various leaders including an All Round Cord to Elizabeth Kelly. Captain Sheen presen- ted the following awards in which the Guides voted on: Best Junior Guide - Karen Kyte, Best Senior Guide - Robynn Ward, Best All Round Guide - Sharon Holli- day, Courtesy Award - Dawn Bouillon, Best Patrol - King- fishers. After this she gave a brief outline of the new Can- ada-wide programme in which some of the changes are as follows: Ages 6-9 Brownies, 9-12 Guides, 12-15 Pathfinders, 15-17 Rangers. It was announced that Captain Sheen was to be- come Commissioner, As a tribute to Captain Sheen's 7 years of Guiding here it was announced that in the new Chalet at Camp Adelaide 1 Guide foot was bought in Miss Sheen's name. Captain Turner expressed apprecia- tion to commissioner Joyce Taylor who is retiring. A number of Brownies flew up to Guides. They were: 3rd Blackstock Pack - Elaine Kelly, Kathryn Jordan, Mon- ique Rioual, Brenda Mec- Mahon, Sheryl Porter, Dawn Locke. 1st Blackstock Pack - Lynn Moore, Caren Otto, Vicki Shaver, Kelly Suggitt, Susan Traquair, Lee Bayley. Two walked up from the 1st Blackstock Pack were Ann Edgerton and Michelle Mac- Donald. Cartwright Central Public School Anniversary , On Saturday, June 9, form- er students, staff and friends visited Cartwright Central Public School on the occa- sion of its 25th anniversary. This was also an occasion to honour Mr. Grant Campbell who was a member of the original staff and who will be retiring this June from teaching for 37 years in the profession. Mr. Campbell was presented with an hon- ourary life membership in the Ontario Public School Men Teachers' Federation by their representative Mr. James Kirkaldy, a former principal of Cartwright Cen- tral. Present during the after- noon were many former trustees and teachers includ- ing Mr. Wallace Marlow who was chairman of the School Board during the planning and construction of the orig- inal school and Mr. Roy Turner, the first principal. The school was attractive ly decorated with some of the students art work and pict- ures of students and events over the past twenty-five years. Refreshments were served by the O.N.O. During the course of the afternoon 150- 200 people visited the school. Best of luck to Cartwright Central beginning its next twenty-five years. The Schyburt family tra- velled to Michigan for the weekend to visit Beth's par- ents Alice and Doug Stimson who had returned from Ari- zona for the summer, to attend niece Michelle's grad- uation open house on Satur- day and to visit 8 day old grand-nephew Daniel Beam- er. Weekly Tuesday evening Senior Citizens' Card Party had 20 tables with the follow- ing winners: 1. Jack Cook-87 2. Ethel Cook-84¢ Rhoda Larmer-94, 3 Flossie Aldred- 83, 4 Carl Wright -90, Carl Gimblett-80, Low Belle Smith. At Blackstock United Church the annual Sunday School anniversary was held. The primary, junior and intermediate all sang to the delight of the congrega- tion. Rev. R. Chapman, Courtice, gave a wonderful sermon entitled "Listen!"' Eleanor Kelly read the Scripture. Superintendent Jean Adams carried out the service in her usual capable way. Blair has returned to Breezy Acres to work. Blackstock Women's Institute About twenty-five ladies, members and visitors atten- ded the June meeting of the Blackstock Women's Insti- tute on Wednesday evening June 6 in the Community Hall. President Mae Short- ridge welcomed everyone and opened the meeting with the Institute Ode and the Collect. Secretary Flora Samells read the minutes of the last meeting after which Treasurer Helen Bradburn gave a very favourable fin- ancial report. Peggy Larmer presented Marilyn Green with a gift in honour of receiving County Honours and Ann Kristensen for receiving Provincial Honours in their 4-H work. Both girls replied saying how they had enjoyed their 4-H projects and their hope of continuing. A request was made for 4-H leaders in the fall. : Margaret VanCamp gave a report of the District Ann- ual. The theme of the meeting under the convenor- ship of Dora Martyn in Con- sumer and Family Affairs. The motto, The squeaky door gets the oil was replied to by Dora. Velva Bailey intro- duced the guest speaker Mrs. Linda McLaughlin who spoke of her work as director of Consumer Affairs of Ont- ario and gave many helpful suggestions. She stressed the proper ways to issue complains on legitimate grievances. After a brief question per- iod, Dora thanked Linda for her informative talk. After the closing of the meeting, a delicious lunch of desserts and a social time was enjoyed by all.
