Those present included Mr. and Mrs. Norman Neals of Lakefield, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Neals of Whitby, Mrs. Mary Capelle, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Smith and Mrs. Thelma Sconn, all of Bethany, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Beggs and family of Port Elgin. Miss Lana Malcolm had her artistic talents recog- nized recently when she was awarded 5th prize in a Poster Contest at the Pork Congress in Stratford. Congratulations to Rev. and Mrs. Stanley Haines who were recently married and we extend the best wishes of our community to them for health and happiness in the "years ahead. Rev Haines is Scugog Island 'hy Mrs. Earl Reader Sympathy of the Island people is extended to the family of Mrs. Ed. Button at the Foot of the Island who passed away on Tuesday after months of discomfort and treatment from a ter- minal illness. Congratulations to Dr. Jim and Jan Gerrow who wel- comed the arrival of a little son on Thursday. On the weekend Mr. and Mrs. Earl Reader entertain- ed for a few days, first cousins from Saskatoon. The Strawberry Supper at the Hall on Wednesday brought forth a full house as usual. Many people do not realize they should reserve tickets and therefore arrived to disappointment. On Sunday, the Island Church was not overly crowded. But those who were able to be present certainly enjoyed a musical treat which Mr. and Mrs. Jack Dowson and son Bill, of Port Perry supplied. Billy has an exceptionally fine voice and supplied the first solo. Next, father Jack sang a great solo. Finally we were treated to a duet by Jack and Billy. Mrs. Dowson played the piano accompani- ment for all numbers. Rev. Linstead's sermon on religion was a study of how a ritual or inheritance in many lives finally became a force which controlled the rest of their lives in service to others." The Church was brighten- ed by several lovely flower arrangements in memory of Mrs. Muriel Button. Next Sunday the Senior Citizens Choir of Port Perry will come to the Island Church and bring some of their new music. We trust you will make an effort to be present. This choir of 23 or 25 visits several places and shares their talents. The following Sunday Mrs. Jim VanCamp will take care of the music. Now don't forget this Sat- urday is the day of the Institute Auction at the Is- land Hall. But i alga te VI, Vi Ge : currently conducting courses for the Armed Forces during the week in the week and will be regret- fully (for us at least) be leaving our Janetville Charge the last 'Sunday in July. Our new minister will be holding services the first Sunday in September. Mr. George Barry of Janetville R.R. will be guest speaker at all three charges the second Sunday in August. Mr. Terry Malcolm under- went surgery this week in Port Perry to remove the cartilage of one of his knees that has been troubling him for some years. Terry is currently hobbling around on crutches. Hope they didn't remove anything crucial. Mr. Murray Malcolm is currently involved in erec- ting an addition to the farm residence of Terry and Brenda Malcolm - a "play- pen' no doubt. Misses Jo-Anne and Pat- ricia Rimmer of Seaforth were weekend visitors with their aunt and uncle and cousins - Mr. and Mrs. Bob Kennington and daughters of Lotus. Another weekend visitor was Mr. Gary Kennington of Edgar (near Orillia), Bob's kid brother. As previously indicated our first mate and your scribe enjoyed a three day business (and pleasure) visit to Stratford and area this week. It was also a pleasure to see "Happy New Year" production at the Avon Theatre as well as being guests of local Coop dignita- ries who being hung out the welcome mat with most generous hospitality. Miss Mona Malcolm (our youngest member of the tribe) received an unexpec- ted accolade this past week when she was selected by "Lindsay This Week' publi- cation to be the Lindsay Lass of the week. We should like to say that she favours her father, but in the interests of future credibility we must divorce fiction from fact. Nevertheless bust measure- ments of family members have suffered some slight expansion from the incident. Mrs. Audrie Brown attended the swearing in ceremonies this past week of her step-son Judge Paul Pickett. event took place in the old city hall when several future collegues in Criminal Court assisted his induction to office in a most impressive ceremony. Around 200 friends, relatives and digni- taries were on hand for the occasion. Later the Picketts enter- tained a number of those present at their residence with a Cocktail party. Miss Jane Connolly and Mr. Marti Malcolm were Saturday guests at the wedding of Miss Marion Joan O'Connell and Brian David Mahon in St. Mary's Church Lindsay with recep- tion at Ops Community Centre.
