The Port Perry Lawn Bowling Green was a busy spot last week as teams from several communities Sixteen couples from the surrounding district, Peter- borough, Lindsay, Canning- ton, Oshawa, Whitby, Agin- court and the local club competed in this Lawn Bowl- ing Tournament. After threc games had been played, the entry of J. Hunter of Oshawa was the winner, with Mr. and Mrs. W. Tewksbury of Lindsay a close second. The two games winners were Mr. and Mrs. L. Sheridan of Lindsay and Mr. and Mrs. N. Dewes of Agincourt. Mr. and Mrs. W. Southern of Cannington were the winners for the one game. : Excellent weather added to the enthusiasm and enjoy- ment of the contestants. Anyone who feels they are interested and would like to try this sport, come to the green Tuesday or Thursday evenings or contact a mem- ber of the Port Perry Lawn Bowling Club. Juveniles win and lose against Oshawa teams by Danny Millar The Port Perry Mother's Pizza Juvenile softball team split a pair of games last week. On Wednesday, they defeated Collegiate Sports 5-1 when Mark Jeffrey threw Midas Muffler Shop, 1220 Dundas St. E., Whitby 668-1065 Midas Muffler Shop, 227 Simcoe St. S., Oshawa 576-8111 a seven hitter. The next day they lost to Millwork Auto Centre of Oshawa 10-1 in Port Perry. The second game was not entertaining. An injury to Port ace pitcher Kevin Walker forced them to go with Ian Hartung on the rubber. Quite frankly, Hartung did not do the job and was replaced by Jeffrey late in the contest. The two hurlers combined to strike out three, two by Jeffrey, and allow ten hits. The defence behind Hartung was sloppy, making seven errors. The Oshawa bats connec- ted on Hartung early and never let up. Hartung is not a hard thrower but when he does try to throw smoke he has a tendency to get wild. This is what appeared to happen against the visitors. Oshawa jumped out into a four run lead in the top of the first. The first four men who came to the plate netted the runs. Glen Dickson led off with a single and trotted into second when Doug Willough- by walked. They both crossed the plate when Jeffrey, who started at third base, threw away an inten- ded sacrifice bunt. Bud Yahn, who was the winning pitcher, greeted Hartung with a single over Dane Dickson's head to deliver a run. Yahn counted a run moments later when Luke Brown stroked a single down the middle. Brown was gunned down at the plate after trying to score on a fly ball to left. The throw was right on the money from Dennis Franssen. Port replied with their run in the bottom of the inning as Steve Redman opened the frame when he got on base on an error. He was sacri- ficed to second by Ted White and then scored when Dave Dickson lined a single down the left field line. Oshawa enjoyed rallies in the third and fifth sessions. The Port bats could manage only three hits off Yahn as the righty went the full route. He also retired seven men on strikes. Jeffrey came up with a stellar performance to defeat Collegiate Sports. He apparently is not a strikeout pitcher as he fanned only two hitters in this contest. He does not throw as hard as Kevin Walker or even Ian Hartung. Al Woermke took the loss but struck out seven in the process. Port Perry's record is now even at six wins and six losses. Juveniles next home game is Thursday, July 12 at the Lakefront park in Port Perry. Game time is 8:30
