16 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, August 1, 1979 Trent system drawing from resevoirs Water Control The reservoir storage re- maining on July 23rd was 82 percent, from July 16th, with much of the loss being due to high evaporation off the lakes themselves. During ex- tremely hot, dry periods down 5 percent' which we are experiencing now, up to one-half the week- ly loss in storage from the reservoirs is due to evapora- tion, while the other half is water drawn off for the Trent-Severn Waterway. The dry spell of the last few weeks was broken by scattered thunderstorms oc- curring from July 24th to 26th, which dumped from 6mm to 50mm of rain across the Trent-Severn Watershed. Prior to the recent rainfall, it became necessary to in- crease the flow from the Blackstock (From page 14) following prizes were given out. It appears that the increased flow from the reservoirs, plus the recent rainfall, will cause some of the Kawartha Lakes to overfill slightly by the end of the week. Mini- mum outflows from the Ka- warthas will be maintained, thus allowing the outflow from the reservoirs to be reduced while the extra wate is used up. Very heavy rainfall over parts of the Lake Simcoe- Couchiching watershed (104 mm in two hours at Orillia) on July 25th caused that lake Ashburn News Last Sunday at Burns Church Rev. Minimum out- flows from the lake are being maintained to conserve this water. Big Chute Marine Railway Official Opening The Honourable John Fra- ser, P.C.,M.P., the Minister responsible for Parks Cana- da, cordially invites yop to the official opening of Big Chute Marine Railway. This ceremony will take place at theBig Chute on Sunday, August 5, 1979 at 4:00 p.m. The ceremony will be en- hanced by the recreation of Governor General Simcoe's journey in 1793 from the Holland River to Gerogian Bay and the Upper Great Lakes, via the Severn River. A party of three voyageur canoes will be transported over the Chute in the new marine railway carriage. Govenor Simcoe and Mr. Douglas Lewis, M.P. for Simcoe North will preside at the ribbon cutting. The Big Chute Marine Railway is unique in North America, and is located near Severn Falls. Road access is via Coldwater, Ontario. G.
