The committee of nine, which will examine Durham Region and hold public meet- ings in the next six months, has been given a budget of $10,000 by the council for such things as travel expen- ses and the preparation of a final report. It is not surprising that the ry motion for this review came from the Mayor of Oshawa, who has been one of the most vocal critics of the Durham set-up. Mayor Potticary and some members of Durham council from the city of Oshawa have complained loudly that Oshawa is not getting a fair shake in the Region. The complaints centre around the fact that Osh- awa's 11 members who sit on the Durham council are not a & fair representation of the city population, and the city is not getting a fair return for the tax dollars it turns over to the Region each year.
