SASS -- a PRET, ta RRRRETOIE INR 35 16 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, August 8, 1979 Nestleton, Caesarea News Nestleton Women's Institute The regular meeting of the Women's Institute was held in Nestleton Community Centre Wednesday after- noon, August 1st, with 15 members and one visitor present. ' Due to the absence of the President Mrs. W. Bolan, the Vice President Mrs. L. Malcolm presided. After a coedial welcome the meeting was opened with singing of the Ode and the Mary Stewart Collect, with Mrs. G. Thompson at the piano. This was followed by a brief reading from "Home and Country" re the purpose of the Institute. The Roll Call "Name a citizen who has contributed much to the pioneering of this community" was well answered. The 1M * President of Durham ,¢ from Hamp- ton, Mrs. v. Bryant will be guest speaker at Nestleton W.I. on Wednesday, October 3rd. Blackstock W.I. is invited to attend. The District Fun Fair is sche- duled to be held at Black- stock on October 16. The Blackstock W.I. is chartering a bus to the Theatre in Lindsay on August 10. It will be stopping at the Country Store, Nestle- ton at 7:05 p.m. Nestleton members are invited to go. A donation is to be sent to Muscular Dystrophy. Programme Mrs. D. Frew, Family and Consumer Affairs convener presented an excellent programme. The Motto was "A good Mother is worth 100 School Masters'. Miss Virginia Frew gave a school paper on "The International Year of the Child". An article on Child Abuse followed. A reading from Erma Bombeck on "Child- ren" and "Kids Hilarious Prayers" concluded this interesting programme. Several lively songs (Child- ren's) were sung as rounds. O Canada! and the Institute Grace brought the meeting to a close. A delicious lunch was served by Mrs. A. Earnshaw and her group. Mrs. M. Firlit extended the vote of thanks to Mrs. D. Frew, programme convener and to Mrs. A. Earnshaw, Lunch convener. The next meeting will be held September 5th, and will include a tour of Pine Ridge Pottery. MEMORIAL SERVICE A portion of the regular service was set aside as a Memorial Service for the late Mr. William Steel held at North North Nestleton United Church, Sunday, August 5th. Many relatives and close friends were present testifying to the high esteem in which he was held. Rev. Victor Parsons, having returned from holi- days conducted the service choosing as his topic "Able to Believe". Scripture II Timothy I: Ver. 1-10; John 15 Ver. 5-17. Mr. Steel's favourite Hymn "Rock of Ages" was sung with Mrs. L. Malcolm presiding at the organ. Miss Gail Malcolm was soloist and sang "How Great Thou Art". Two Service books from the United Church Women were dedicated in memory of Mr. Steel who had served as elder of the Church, and was an honourary elder until his death. Floral arrangements from the family graced the front of the Church. The United Church Women served refreshments after the Service. Family Re-Union The Emerson family held a re-union at the home of Ellen and Mervin Bird, on Saturday last, August 4th, at Brooklin, with 43 members on hand to enjoy the get-to- gether. Mr. and Mrs. Wilton Creed of Barrie and daugh- ter Evelyn were present as well. Social News Sunday evening supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ellwood Cook, of Summit Drive, Caesarea, were Mrs. Cook's two sisters, Mrs. BPlorence Covert, and Mr. and Mrs. Chas Plews, and a niece Mrs. Lorraine Oliver, all of Oshawa, also son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John E, Cook of Brook- lin. A beautiful evening, and supper was enjoyed outside under the lawn umbrella. A fine family party. Dorothy and Bob Ewers from Orillia were guests of Clara and Charlie Nesbitt for a few days at St. Christop- her. Ralph and Elsie Wilbur, Port Perry visited Jackie Heeney, and Russell and Gladys Wiggins, Scugog Point, on Saturday evening. "Deepest Sympathy' is extended to Jackie who has lost her Mother recently. Her Aunt and Sister are keeping her company at the present time. . Mrs. Dorothy Chapman, New Liskeard, and Mrs. Helen Vine, Nestleton, spent a most enjoyable weekend in Sarnia visiting relatives Mrs. Jackie Reynolds and Mrs. Reg Middleton. On their travels they also called on another relative Mrs. Kay Mallet in Hamilton. Kay returned to Nestleton with the girls and stayed over- night at the Bower's home. Dorothy Chapman left the following day for her home in New Liskeard after spending some time with her parents in Nestleton, and Kay Mallet went to Manitoulin Island to visit her mother. Caesarea Euchre Club At last Wednesday evenings card party the winners were: 1st - Roy Wren, 2nd - Bob France, 3rd - Carol McMillan. Euchre parties will continue every Wednesday evening during the summer. As the busy season draws to a close we trust the attendance will improve. The Ladies' Auxiliary are a hard working group and deserve a real break. If you like a game of. cards try to attend. Friends in Hospital Mrs. Rose Briggs is still in Port Perry Hospital and we extend best wishes for better health soon, Very sorry to hear that Mr. Richard Davison of Nestle- ton has bee so ill since June. After a long sojurn both in Port Perry and Oshawa Hospitals, he has just returned home this past week. Friends within the area wish a speedy recovery to Dick. The best of health to Mrs. Stuart Thompson, and Mrs. Rita Wygerde who have been hospitalized recently. Social News Mr. and Mrs. Norman Rohrer, Nestleton had an interesting weekend visiting friends in Sudbury that they had met while in Florida. They stayed overnight with Mr. and Mrs. Gil Lachapelle, and enjoyed quite a tour of places of interest. Rohrers were supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Sanders and called on Mr. and Mrs. Jack Blight and Mr. and Mrs. Lou Graham. Mr. and Mrs. Chas Cawker, Scarborough, and Professor Ken Cawker of Western University, London' were Saturday guests of the Cawkers at the farm. The' Notice Don't forget next Sunday. August 12, the annual Decoration Service will be held at Nestleton Unitec Church at 2:30 p.m. The Rev. E. Joblin of Lindsa) will be the speaker and the choir will be from Janetville United Church.
