On Monday, July 30 they were clobbered 9-2 by Albuk of Oshawa and on Thursday, August 2 they surprised Ont- ario Motor Sales, also of Oshawa, 7-2. Port Perry did not look bad in the loss. They were victims of one bad inning as Oshawa jumped on starting righty Mark Jeffrey for sev- en runs. They were stopped cold by an excellent pitching performance from Doug Spencer. * Jeffrey threw well for two innings before running into trouble in the third. Gerry 3 WTR E TA PA 1 ON ' hy' Vier 4 : cin dhe bison Oulelasnbila wath Gibson reached base on shortstop George Burnett's error and quickly advanced two bases on a sacrifice bunt and an infield out. Select David Irvine got a break- away and scored a goal against the Wood-chucks which was one of three goals for this super player. During the second half the Selects stepped up their at- tack and David Schwan and. Terry Bache each scored goals for the Selcts. MINI White Team-2 Orange Team-1 Philip McBride The White Team could only niuster 4 players but the Orange Team, in a very sportsmanlike gesture, lent the White Team two players. In a hard fought game the White Team generally had control but the Orange Team kept the score down to 2 goals by Ethan Lavereau for the Whites and replied with on of their own by Ian McDougall. Blue Team-12 Purple Team-0 The score tells the tale as the Blue Team swamped the Purple people. However the latter team did not give up Goals by Larocca, Appleby and Beacock did the dam- age. Three runs scored as Ken Craig pounded the ball to right field which bounced by fielder Gerald Lee. Both Lee and Kane were making unaccustomed starts. Usually, their duties consist of pinch-hitting and the occasional late inning time in the field. h Oshawa went right on with the scoring as Warren Hall laid down a bunt and Craig came home on a squeeze play. Another triple to right, this one by Joe Greentree, brought in another run. The seventh and final point of the frame was scored when Gib- son, up for the second time in the fifth, delivered Green- tree with a shot to right. Port got both of their runs in the top of the seventh, with 'ruling this "season, and hit sy the outcome all but sealed. Kane smashed a triple down the left field line to drive in Mike Healy. Kane came home on a superb bunt by Pinkowski. Kevin Walker, the big righthanded flame-thrower # for Port, warmed up qn the sidelines for several minutes prior to the game. He was used as the designated hit- ter, allowed by a new OASA well. He is recuperating from an injured shoulder hurt in a North York tourna- ment a few weeks ago. Much of the Port Perry success in post season play will depend on how well Walker recuperates. Though plagued with inconsistency throughout the season, when hot he is nearly unbeatable in Juvenile ball. gog . I.
