The home team came out hitting, knocking in three runs in the first inning and adding one more in the second, while limiting Port Perry to two hits and not allowing anyone wearing a blue sweater to cross the plate. However, in the Port half of the third, the Blue's bats came alive. Carol Wilton started things off with a triple to deep centre field and scored on Chris Don- nelly's single. Denise Crawford, Lori Lynde and Karen Young all hit in order and all four girls scored, with Karen coming home on Kelly Owen's triple. Joan Wilton then singled to score Kelly and the inning ended with Port ahead six to four. Mount Albert came back in the bottom of the fourth with a rally of their own, racking up seven hits and adding five runs to take the lead again. Port Perry got one run back in the top of the fifth when Lori Lynde singled to start the inning and, after moving around to third on Karen Young's sacrifice, she came in on Valerie Sweetman's single. The Mount Albert team was put out in order and the Blues came to bat in the sixth inning still down two runs. Once again Carol Wilton started things off with a single and scored on Chris Donnelly's double. Chris moved around to third on Denise Crawford's sacrifice bunt and from there scram- pered home, beating out the run-down to score the tying and final run of the game. Both teams went three up, three down in the seventh, and the game ended with the score at nine runs each. Karen Young pitched another strong game and picked up six strike-outs and Valerie Sweetman, who grabbed everything thrown at her on first base, earned the Star of the Game. The. Blue's final regular season game is Tuesday, August 21, against Clare- mont at the Lakeshore Park. Port Perry Packers tournament champs The first annual ball hockey tournament is hist- ory now, with the Port Perry Packers taking top honours. The Packers and Brians (both of the Port Perry league) squared off in the championship final, with the Packers winning it 2-1. This was a closely contest- BENNETTM arin CHRYSLER MOTORS SKiI-DOO RON & ed game as the scoring did not open up until the third period. The Packers opened the third frame on two quick goals. Joel Dupont from Bob Ryan at 14:48 and Bill Hunt- ley from Aldon Smith at 12:38. Don Card's bid for a shut- out was spoiled with 3 min- utes remaining as Ken Pier- son found an opening to the Card cottage. Pierson's goal was assisted by John Milne and Russ Craig. Don Card made several key saves in the dying seconds to pre- serve the win. Lions eliminated from playdowns by Peter Christie On Tuesday August 14, Port Perry Bantam Lions started their second round of 0.A.S.A. Playdowns against Wellington. They advanced to the second round because Carrying Place defaulted the first round. Both games were well played, close and exciting, with Port losing both by the scores of 54 and 1-0. In the first game Port got off to a shaky start giving up 5 runs in the first two inn- ings. After this the team settled down and played fine ball with Robinson pitching an excellent game. The second game on Thursday August 16 was very close. The only run of the game was scored on a home run by Miller. It was the only hit of the three Wellington got that did any damage. Robinson again pitched an excellent game although he only struck out three batters. Port played fine defence especially on the home run ball which rolled to the fence. Blayone picked up the ball and made a fine throw to Patton who in turn wheeled and threw to the plate where he almost got the runner out. The Wellington pitcher also pitched a fine game throwing a four hitter with Christie getting two hits, Young and Tremblay each getting one. It is no disgrace losing to a team such as Wellington and they should go far in the 0.A.S.A. competition. 20000 SEWING MACHINE REPAIRS In Your Own Home 20 Years Experience GIL RUMMENIE _ 985-7860 52525252525252525252525252525252525¢2 5252525252525252525252525252 Si ST] Tala --CICICICICICICI0AC 25252525252525252525252525255 54 PORT PERRY MINOR HOCKEY ASSOCIATION REGISTRATION DATES: Friday, Sept. 14, 1979-6to9 p.m. Sat., Sept. 15, 1979-10a.m.to4 p.m. Sun., Sept. 16, 1979-2to 4 p.m. PLACE: Old Arena, Water Street, Port Perry FEE: Single - $60.00 Double - $100.00 Family - $135.00 Tykes - $35.00 All registrations made September 14th, 15th and 16th, 1979 will receive a five dollar discount from the above listed rates.
