A Senior Citizen news by Marion King A happy band of Port Perry Seniors was bussed forth into the foggy night on Friday November 23rd to be guests of the Stouffville Seniors at the Beaver Hall on Main Street in Stouffville. A warm welcome from our gracious hosts, and we soon forgot the discomforts of puddle jumping and drizzle. It was a priviledge to entertain our hosts with. a programme performed by our own members. First Marjorie McCombe and Gladys Butt gave us a hilar- ious skit. Then Edna Kerry and Doug Stiver played duets upon the piano. Ethel Robertson gave us some inspirational readings and then our choir under the ~ direction of Win Philp gave a strong performance ending with the combined voices of hosts and guests in a select- ion of favourite songs. Refreshments were served after the entertainment and we gratefully consumed hot steaming cups of tea and coffee before bundling up for our journey home. Thank you Stouffville Seniors for your hospitality and a won- derful evening which ended all too soon. Don't forget members, Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 28th is Penny Bingo day at Latcham Centre and coming up on Wednesday December 12th a speaker from the association for the blind. Take a rare springlike night beside a shining lake in late November. Take a large hall on that lakeshore. The rafters ringing with the sounds of an orchestra. Add a large appreciative audience. And what do you have? Carnegie Hall? The National Theatre? No indeed! You have Latcham Centre in Port Perry on Sunday night, November 25. And if you didn't go there after we invited you, no less, you missed a most enjoyable evening. The Oshawa Concordia Pops Orchestra under the direction of Mr. Andrew Uranowski. A dedicated young man who for the second time brought his musicians to Latcham Centre and presented a splendid programme has promised he will return. The concert opened with a stirring selection from the popular musical The Sound of Music and followed with Variations on a Theme, by Hayden. Useful information Dear Sir: The following information could be of use to some officers of the Durham Regional Police Force in the Port Perry district. In court on Monday the 19th day of November, 1979 an officer was asked, "'if you drive onto the shoulder of the road, do you carry on down the shoulder before coming back on the highway or do you come back immediately onto the pavement?" His answer was he presumed he would come back immed- iately as he had never heard of travelling down the shoulder before returning on the pavement. I stated that you carry on down the shoulder until you can bring your vehicle back on the pavement safely. The Driver's handbook Traffic laws and good driving practices for drivers in Ontario states and I quote, "If wheels run on to soft or depressed shoulder grip steering wheel firmly to maintain course. Do not try to steer back onto pavement until you reduce speed. Steer onto pavement when traffic permits". So come on Durham Regional Police, Lets learn to drive defensively and properly.
