There was no scoring in the second period. Clay Lovering who played strong games in the nets for Port kept Keswick off the score sheet until late in the final period when they narrowed the gap to 2 to 1 with just over 3 minutes left in regu- lation time. Brian Dickson finally took the pressure off when he scored the insurance marker in this 3 to 1 victory. Only 2 minutes and 42 seconds remained on the clock when Brian found him- self with the puck in front of the net, courtesy of Brian Mikkelsen and Mike Andrews. He cooly held his shot until the top right corner of the net opened up giving him a spot to deposit the puck. The championship game was against Stirling and the Pacers staged a dramatic come-from-behind 4 to 3 victory in overtime. Port just couldn't seem to get anything going in the first period. Stirling con- nected twice to take a 2 to 0 lead by the end of the period. The Pacers hopes were dimmed further when Stirling got goal number 3 early in the second period. Todd Wilbur, who had been carried off the ice on a stretcher in the Keswick game, shook off his hip injury and started the come back for Port with a pretty goal on a solo effort midway in the second period. The fans came alive! The team came alive! MoJacks showingdesire to win (From page 10) Bill Bridge and Bill Owen both took early trips to the showers with Bridge getting the heave for being tagged the aggressor in a fight at the end of the second period, and Owen sent off at the 5:30 mark of the second for an. uncomplimentary remark to referee Terry Landry. Bridge will not miss any future games because of his penalty, but Owen's major misconduct carries with it a two-game suspension. Both Bridge and Owen SATE - - Everyone's favourite cheerleader, Freddie J. donned his Kamikaze pilot's hat and with the 'ole give me a P give me an O routine ringing throughout the Ban- croft arena, one could sense our mission was going to be accomplished. Sean Fewer wound up for the slap shot from the blue line, he did not get good wood on the shot, but the puck found its way through a maze of legs into the net. Todd Wilbur and Pat John- son drew assists. The third period was less than two minutes old when Todd Wilbur got the tying goal assisted by Todd Blayone. Regulation time ended in a 3 to 3 tie. Fifty seconds into sudden death overtime Brian Mikk- elsen slipped the winner into the net with Brian Dickson getting an assist. Team Captain Doug Potts accepted the Champs trophy on behalf of his teammates and each player was then presented with a wooden hand carved replica of the championship trophy. Each team member was also presented with a crest, commemorating Bancroft Centennial Year 1879-1979. Team members: Mgr.-Bob Storry, Coach-Butch Potts, Trainer-Mike Adams, play- ers-Doug Potts, Todd Wil- bur, Brian Mikkelsen, Pat Johnson, Joe Williams, Brian Dickson, Paul Storry, Kevin Long, Bob Horton, Mike Andrews, Mark Jeff- rey, Sean Fewer, Todd Blay- one, Scott Sandison, Rob Franssen, and €lay Lovering. appeared frustrated over the officiating which at times seemed to favour the Panthers. Port Perry was called 14 times during the game, while the Panthers took just five penalties. Defenseman Steve Jones also left the game early with a cut on the nose. However, he is expected to be back in action this week. The victory over the Panthers keeps the MoJacks six-game undefeated streak alive, and the team is now Forward Mike Healey stretches for loose puck in front of Port Hope goalie while Panther defender Strikes and Spares MONDAY NIGHT LADIES BOWLING 1:00PM.
