Bullen's goals came 1:19 apart after Phil Cochrane had scored first in the ten minute extra session. Bullen got his second of the night to tie the score at 9-9 with 3:17 to go when Mike Healey missed a couple of chances to clear the puck from his own end. He got the winner with 2:18 left on another MoJack miscue when he was left wide open in front of goaltender Raymond Gibson and rifled a shot after a pass from Grant Jex. Cochrane scored on a breakaway to give Port Perry a short lived lead at 3:20 of the overtime while teammate Darrin Jobb was in the penalty box for holding. His high snap shot into the top of the net beat goaler Joe Pokusa cleanly. Despite the high number of goals scored, both goalies played superbly on several occasions. Port Perry out- shot the home team 42-39. The top MoJack on the ice was captain Bill Bridge who scored four times and set up Cochrane's crucial goal. Three of his goals came in a big second period rally in which the Panthers were outscored 4-1, after taking the lead by an identical count after the first 20 minutes of torrid paced action. Bridge's first goal came on a rebound at 32 seconds of the second session after Rob Garrow took a shot. It came on a power play with Dale Sidey off for hooking. Chic Tyson took a pass from Garrow and then relayed it to Stu Cochrane for the third Mojack goal of the game to bring the visitors to within 4-3 at 4:25 of the second period. (Bill Owen got the only Port Perry goal of the first period on a drive from the point.) With Bullen in the box for slashing, Bridge scored again after taking a pass from Phil Cochrane, on an excellent deke of Pokusa. Terry Watts regained the lead for Port Hope with his shot from the front of the net, at 10:07. Bridge got the final goal of the second period after Rob Greiner stole the puck from Bullen and fed it to Gord Hintze. A SHOOT-OUT The third period was a shootout as Port Hope scored twice in the first seven and a half minutes and appeared to put the game away before goals by Bridge, Stu Cochrane and Griener put the MoJacks in front for the first time in the game. Garrow set up the first goal when he rushed down the ice and handed off to Bridge for the scoring shot. Bullen scored on a long slap shot with Greg Dwyer off for elbowing at 4:31. Mike Carr set him up with a pass near the blue line. Bob Croll shoved the puck into a small opening behind Gibson with 12:37 remaining in regulation time to give Port Hope a 7-6 lead. - After the goal Gibson came up with sensational saves on Watts, after he got around defenceman Jobb. Stu Cochrane got his second of the night with 5:23 left after he took a long pass from Dwyer that bounced off a Panther near center. The Cats regained the lead once more when Bullen knocked the puck off Dave Alexan- der's stick and Jex picked up the loose puck to score. It came with just 4:28 left. Greiner got the tying goal that finally forced a fourth period on a similar play to that which Cochrane had scored on. He took a head man pass near center ice from Tyson. Gobson saved the MoJacks with three good stops in the last few minutes, two of them with less than five seconds left. Tyson and Dwyer had shakey games defensively. The defensive pairing was on the ice for all four Panther goals in the first period. The third goal bounced in off Tyson's skate. Port Perry coach Doug Scott went throughout the game with four rearguards, as he paired Owen and Jobb. Charlie Brown saw little action. Senior Redmen defeat Eastdale 84-64 by Danny Millar With 6:30 remaining in the third quarter of Port Perry's senior basketball game at the Eastdale Collegiate Eagles, guard Bob Ireland walked onto the court for the first time this season. He finished the quarter on the floor and also played the last minute of the game. In the 7:30 that he played, he scored eight points, missed only one shot, had two steals, and otherwise played a near flawless game except for one foul. Ireland had finally been coaxed out of retirement after playing with the senior Redmen in last year's play- offs. That season he spent with the junior squad during the league games. The most important factor in his retirement was a pair of bad knees. He wore a brace last season but this protective device was missing against the Eagles. He took one tumble on the court but jumped up again quickly. George Cope and Mike Patton went on to lead the Redmen to an 84-64 triumph with 28 and 20 points respec- tively. Guard Dennis Frans- sen also had an excdllent game with 14 points. The win was one of{ the strongest team efforts mitted by the Redmen th year. The rebounding fro Cope and Patton was ve good. On one play Prt Perry took four shots but managed to bring down all three rebounds before scoring. One factor of the Port Perry game plan that did not bring results was the full court press. The Eagles had BE A WINTER SPORT Support your local \ Lung Association 723-3151 J no trouble running through this part of the usually tough Redmen defence. JUNIORS THUMPED The junior Redmen in- curred five technical fouls and coach Glen Rideout was ordered off the court in a 62-32 thumping, at the hands of the juniors from Eastdale. Coach Rideout was ejected with 35 seconds left in the third quarter when he slammed the floor beside the bench after a call against his team. Kevin Harris had two of the technical fouls, while Peter Stone, Brett Ooster- man, and Rideout got the others. In the third period. Eagle Mark Ozimek scored four straight points on foul shots. Ozimek, who finished with 13 points, teamed with Chris Coward (eight points) to give the Birds a strong shooting attack. Oosterman led the Redmen with seven points while John Butler came off the bench with six. Donnie Young hit on nearly every shot he threw in the second half as he accu- mulated a Redmen high of 33 points in the midget game but the Redmen still went down to a 69-51 defeat. Young hit on everything from five foot bank shots to jumpers from the top of the key. He scored on a three point play with four seconds left in the third quarter, but the Eagle win was already well in hand, as they led 46-32. Mark Phillips backed up Young with eight points and Stan Glass had six before fouling out with 1:32 left in the first half. The big men for the Eagles were Chris Tutton with 22 points and Jim Wright with 20 points. Why take more lessons than you need?
