This marked the conclusion of the Indoor Gardening Course sponsored by the Home Economics Branch, Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food. Each of the 10 groups participating had a splendid display of their own creations, "indeed a show- case' including foliage plants, dish gardens, terrariums, aromatic herbs and so forth. Macrame plant hangers were versatile with many different designs developed by individual group members. During the interesting afternoon two gardening films were shown, a talk re growing Orchids, and a question and answer period on Horticulture by Mrs. John Carnaghan of Blackstock, all very worthwhile. Quite an assortment of food made with Herbs with recipes attached, along with tea or coffee and a variety of cheese provided afternoon Senior By Marion King Our Senior Citizens had a real good time at the Tommy Hunter Show taping on Thurs- day, January 17. Several were called up to have interviews with Tommy. These trips are enjoyed thoroughly. Our regular meeting was held Wednesday, January 23. The meeting opened by sing- ing O Canada with Ruth Wil- son at the piano. We had two new members - Annie James and Leonard Allan. Ruth Wilson read the Secretary's Report which was adopted as read. Ernie Hea- ley read the Treasurer's Re- port. Marion Rowland had three thank-you notes from Myrtle Thomas, Alice Bar- thau and Florence Murdock. A sincere thank you to the Home Economist Mrs. Beverly Brook for a most instructive workshop, also the committee in charge of Summary Day, Mrs. Marjor- ie Stewart of Goodwood W.1., Mrs. Muriel Wotten, Shirley W.I., and Mrs. Helen MacMaster, Honeydale W.I. for a very fine afternoon. Hospital Friends Warmest wishes for a speedy recovery to all those confined to Hospital, Mrs. Patricia Sleep and Donna Prosser, Nestleton, Mrs. George Till and Mrs. H. Tricker Caesarea. Deepest sympathy is extended to Mrs. Elwood Cook of Caesarea, who lost a beloved sister recently, Mrs. Ivy Plews of Oshawa. Sympathy is also extended to husband Charles, son John, Oshawa, and daughter Hilda Haye of Ottawa. Velma Terry reported for the euchre $44.58 - 20 tables. February 13 is to be a Bake Sale and White Elephant Sale. Marion King reported for the Programme Committee, Marion Rowland for the bus committee. A pot luck supper and a shuffle-board tourna- ment, carpet bowling, etc. will be held February 20th. Doris Grierson will decorate the Latcham Centre for the Valentine Party. Ollie's Dollies from Bowmanville then put on a lovely variety programme, kitchen band, etc. This was much enjoyed. A warm welcome is extended for next Sunday, Feb. 10th at 11 a.m. North Nestleton United Church On Sunday, Feb. 3rd, at 11:15 a.m. although very cold and wintry a fairly good attendance was on hand. Rev. Victor Parson's mess- age was based on "Conflict- ing Reactions' leaving the congregation with much food for thought. Holy Scriptures Jeremiah 1-44-10, and Luke 4-21-30. Pleased to have Gail Malcolm sing the beautiful hymn "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross", very appropriate for this time of year. Mrs. Mabel Cawker was the organist. Social News The Oshawa Cawkers were out in full force at the farm on Sunday afternoon at Scugog Point. Chris, Curtis and a friend Peter Olin, who are All Star Hockey Players became snowmobilers for a change. ED BROADBENT and FRED McLAUGHLIN area area News The Sport of Fishing Many fishing enthusiasts were on hand over the week- end in the bone-chilling below zero temperature on Lake Scugog, but rumour has it, not very good luck. Fishing is a relaxing sport, and now, because of the advent of the snowmobile the popularity of the sport has grown-the snowmobile can get you to the fishing spot in a jiffy, giving you more time to fish.
