Led by piper Shona Stone, curlers of the Second Draw were piped onto the ice to the skirl of the traditional bag-pipes as the Port Perry Ladies Curling Club hosted a special 25th anniversary bonspiel on February 19. Sixteen teams wer entered. Port Perry ladies host anniversary bonspiel by Jan Towns On Tuesday February 19, the Port Perry Ladies Cur- ling Club held an Anniver- sary Bonspiel to celebrate twenty-five years of curling. Eight Port Perry rinks invited eight guest rinks to curl and celebrate the oc- casion. To start the day off on the right foot Shona Stone piped both "the 9:00 a.m. draw and the 11:00 a.m. draw onto the ice. ; a bassnbdlogrin 5 A After the first game the teams were taken to club members homes, where they were wined and dined in a very friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Many thanks to our hostesses, Barb Bracken, Marj Preston, Jeanne Goode and Marge Jackson, who went out of" their way to make this a real success. - At the end of a terrific day the winners of the 9:00 a.m. ith a Lhbbds Ri3131132344 000 draw were as follows: First - Marie Snooks (skip), Jean Kyte (vice), Dorothy Catton (second), and Diane Prentice (lead). Marie was a member twenty five years ago and still is a very active curler. Second - Jan Towns, Louise Haugen, Roberta Baird and Judy Latta. Third - Ev. McTavish, Audrey Cain, Shirley Armstrong, and Shirley Davidson from A J 0 RICH The team of Jean Kyte, Diane Prentice, Dorothy Catton and skip Marie Snooks captured the first draw in the 25th anniversary bonspiel. Mrs. Snooks is a charter member of the ladies organization. Ai The winners of the second draw were a team from Uxbridge skipped by Bernice" Mackie Virginia Gould. Her team-mates are Shirley Stanton, Nan Hill, and Uxbridge Curling Club. Winners on the 11 a.m. draw: First - Bernice Mackie (skip), Virginia Gould (vice), Shirley Stan- ton (second) and Nan Hill (lead) from Uxbridge Cur- ling Club. Second - Helen Hadden, Marie Foster, Norma Cornish, and Jean Robertson. Third - Shirley Lee, Mary-Jane Smith, Donna Schnavel and Audrey Middleton. Along with the prizes each guest received an anniver- sary pin to remind them of their day in Port Perry. Special thanks to Kathy Gundry and her committee for planning a very enjoy- able lunch and also to Bon- spiel chairman Mary Alexander, draw master Betty Beare and prize committee Audrey Middle- ton and Carol Williamson. This was a first for this type of Bonspiel in our club and president Helen Parish was mainly responsible for getting the idea off the ground.
