GAN 0 tite Fo Ld od ade With victory over Oak Ridges by Danny Millar Port Perry Beare Motors Bantam A's received strong goalkeeping from Jerry Jackman and excellent checking from all lines to defeat Oak Ridges Kings on Thursday, March 6. The win puts Port into the provincial semi-finals against Lake- field. Port holds two wirs over Lakefield while they have beaten Port once. Port Perry's top line of Donny Young, Jamie Lane and Russ Jones, accounted for the first goal of the game on a neat passing play at 4:56. Right winger Jones head-manned the puck to Young at center and Young passed it over to Lane on a two-on-one at the blue line. Lane went in on the left wing to score. Port played a strong checking game throughout. Instead of forechecking aggressively, the forwards pickup a man at center ice and followed him into 'their own zone. Often the defence will stand up at their own blue line and force the Kings to dump it in or try to take it around them. This was very tough with the strong back- checking of Port's forwards. Jackman made two sen- Bantam B's wrap up Campbellford series By Danny Millar The Port Perry Canadian Tire B's became the third hockey team from Port to advance to the semi-finals in the all-Ontario playoffs. They did this by virtue of a 2 - 0 win over Campbellford on Saturday, March 8 at home. The night before, Port took a 5-2 victory in Campbellford. The other team from Port Perry who have proceeded this far are the Atom A's and Bantam A's. Mark Kerry scored both goals for the winners, the first one assisted by captain Peter Oosterholt and the second one unassisted. Paul Kingston, though not overly tested between the pipes, recorded the shutout. Kings- ton replaced regular puck stopper Doug Arscott. The first period was score- less, though some good goal- tending work from Camp- bellford's Brian Fry was needed to keep it that way. Fry made a clean stop on defenceman: Brian Hend- rick's breakaway in the late going. Port pressed early in the second period, forcing Fry to make two superb saves on Kerry and one on Hendricks. On the second Kerry shot, Fry managed to trap the puck between his legs while he was flat on his back. Hendricks had a slap shot that nearly bounded into the net off Fry's glove. The game was a very clean one, with each team receiv- ing only three minor penal- ties. Campbellford took two in a row to Terry Petherick for interferance, and Joel Watson for tripping. This caused them to play two men down for 1:31, allowing for Kerry to open the scoring. Kerry slipped the shot in at 5:51 after a pass in from from Oosterholt. Two minors to Port Perry nullified the man advantage they previously held. Mike Thompson went off for roughing, preceded by Hen- dricks for hooking. Kerry got the second goal at 1:41 of the third period on a neat stickhandling dis- play. He got around the defence and then deked Fry, sliding the puck under him. Fry has shown a basic weak- ness against the deke. In the game that Port Perry won on Wednesday, March 5, Oost- -erholt scored three of his four goals off the deke to his backhand and Kerry got $ SAVE $ SAVE $ SAVE $ * Woodstoves & Firewood BLACKSTOCK TRAILER SALES & SERVICE LTD. * New & Used Travel Trailers * Used Prowlers * Hardtops Tent - Starcraft - Bonair * Install Truck Caps yourself and Save $25.00 Off our already Low Prices. * Lowest Prices on Awnings - Automatic Awnings * Parts & Accessories for All Makes of Trailers BLACKSTOCK TRAILER SALES & SERVICE LTD. Oosterholt was a one-man team in that 6 - 2 victory. He scored four goals, two of them unassisted, and had one assist. Once again the first period was scoreless. But Ooster- holt struck quickly, 16 sec- onds into the second period. Oosterholt was stopped on the initial breakaway by Fry's quick glove but Thompson followed up the shot and missed. Oosterholt pumped in the rebound. Thompson took a double minor for roughing on the play that the goal was scor- --ed. Just eight seconds after the puck had been dropped at center ice, Oosterholt scored 'all alone on the deke. Chris Martens took a pen- alty at 1:15 and 42 seconds later, Campbellford scored. Randy Morrow shoved in a rebound during a scramble in front of Arscott. Oosterholt got his third goal of the period at 6:28, as he slid around the defence, at the blue line, and went in to score on another deke. Mike Forestall scored early in the second period to make it 3 - 2. But Oosterholt scored his fourth consecutive goal at 6:53, this time on a backhand. With John Lalonde in the penalty box for slashing,. Young netted what turned out to be the winning goal 51 seconds from the start of the second period. Vaughn McKee assisted. Port Perry showed excel- lent penalty killing when they turned back Kings opportunities on consecutive calls against McKee for interference, Kevin Trapp for tripping, and Steve Lee for hooking. Oak Ridges could offer only one good shot during the advantages but Jackman turned it away. Frank Rossi scored the lone Oak Ridges marker with 7:02 remaining in the third period. Rossi intercep- ted a cross rink pass attemp- ted by defenceman Trapp at the blue line and scored unassisted. Kings goalkeeper Brian Meadus came up with a big save on Lane after another set up from Young late in the game. Young completed his hattrick with two third period goals. The first one came at 1:52 on a breakaway in which he went around the defenceman and cut in front of Meadus, feinting him down and knocking the puck by him. It was unassisted. Lalonde, the Kings cap- tain broke his stick by slamming it on the ice in anger after an off side call went against him.
