Brief reports, including results of last season and plans for forthcoming events were submitted by various chairpersons on behalf of their committees. The Treasurer's statement prompted some discussion regarding the current finan- cial position compared to last year's. With a positive view, Chairman Howard Hall pointed out, "On a year-round basis this build- ing is probably the best utilized building in the Town- ship, providing a wide variety of uses." He empha- sized the fact that rentals and public responses to the Subscription Series was its only direct source of income. Treasurer David Muir attri- buted a fiscal change and decreased government fund- - ing as causes effecting his statement. ' Nevertheless, the Board . - felt justified with its general policy of continuing improvement of facilities in order to increase use of the building by community organizations and private parties. The Property Committee report by Kent Farndale included the pro- jected completion of the brand new front entrance "and a promise to introduce another "repair and decorate" program for inside the Hall. By generous participation with the Scugog Choral Society and the Borelians Community Theatre, Town Hall 1873 has encouraged the development of local talent in the musical and dramatic arts. Presentations of these two organizations are always regular favourites. Many other highly regard- ed organizations use the Hall for their general and annual meetings. The Diet Work- shop members meet there every Tuesday evening. The Potpourri Handicraft Guild members meet the first Wednesday evening of every month and regularly sched- ules its "Fall Festival of Crafts' in the Town Hall. The Lake Scugog Historical Society members meet one evening every two months and has produced the occas- ional musical on the gtage there. The Pine Ridge Art Club exhibits the work of its members every . Spring. Teachers have booked the Hall for their dance recitals, instrumental recitals and vocal recitals. Religious associations, sports clubs and business groups have held meetings there. Work- shops and seminars have taken place there. "At times both the upper and lower 'halls are in use by different groups at the same time", states Mr. Hall. - Town Hall 1873 product- ions include a New Year's Eve Ball and the Cabaret, both major events of every season. And, of course, the challenge of the Program Committee is the Subscrip- tion Series; the great job of negotiation and confirming appearances of outstanding personalities, often arrang- ing their accommodation as well, and preparing adequate publicity. Following the successes of the 1979-80 season, the subscription series for next season at Town Hall 1873 looks even better. Response to ticket sales is expected to be improved over last year's. The very renowned Ontario Youth Choir, under the auspices of the Ontario Choral Federation, will perform on September 28th - while on its extensive tour throughout Ontario. Next, the '"Musikids'" Symphonic Band, Musical director Drew Parker, is scheduled for a special performance on Dec. 13. The third event, the Forder-Millar recital, has yet to be decided. Finally, believe it or not, April 23rd will be an aus- picious date in 1981 for Pert Perry. That internationally beloved operatic star, Maureen Forrester, is scheduled to return for a recital that evening. For this one event, it is expected that music lovers from many miles away will come to attend and tickets will undoubtedly be in great demand. It is the final concert of the 1980-81 sub- scription series in Town Hall 1873.
