Nestleton Presbyterian Church With a fair attendance at the service on Sunday morn- ing, July 6, 10 a.m. Rev. Fred Swann based his discourse on Scripture, Acts of the Apostles, Chapter 3. Theme: "Peter and John together at the Temple healing the lame man lying at the Gates'. Excerpts: The early church was a worshipping church and the people continued daily in the Temple praising and worshipping God. The world will continually turn back to the church in time of need. Mrs. Shirley Scott was organist for the service. Next Sunday at 10 am. A cordial welcome to the North Nestleton United Church congregation for the month of July. All are very wel- come who care to attend. Social News Miss Marie Marlow and a friend from Sudbury called on Miss Ruth Proutt recent- ly. Mr. Ralph Cawker and Mrs. Diane Riccio of Toronto were supper guests at the Cawker farm during the past week. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. Allan Cawker, Christie and friend, Oshawa, Mr. J.B. Cawker of Man- chester, Mr. and Mrs. Grant Cawker, Chris, Curtis and Cathy of Oshawa. Less painful anti-rabies serum now available Two Durham residents have been vaccinated with a new anti-rabies serum which is "quicker and better' in effect and less painful in application. Dr. Ted Watt, director of environmental services for the Durham Health Unit, could not identify the two people but was able to describe the new vaccine which is now being sent to doctors' offices. He said people will need four shots and boosters on the 30th and 90th day follow- ing a bite. With the old vaccine, there was a mini- mum of 14 shots and boosters on the 10th, 20th and 90th days. Watt also said that the old ih Church vaccine - grown on animal tissue - usually was applied in the abdominal area where there was ample skin for several injections. The injections were made under the skin. The new vaccine is usually inserted in the arm or butt- ocks. It is a human diploid cell vaccine. Watt also said the new vaccine does not cause some of the reactions which were common to the old type. There had been cases of swelling, itching and in one case in Lindsay, some par alysis because of the old vaccinations. He said that while the new vaccine is available, it still is in short-supply.
