Sr. Division for July 23 had Haines Esso meet All Flags Shell in Nestleton for a duel between the oilers. Haines got an early lead and man- aged to maintain it for the entire game. A problem in the outfield for All Flags allowed seven home runs for Haines with home run honors going to Andrew Goss, Preston Denolt, Brad Martin, David Sandy and two for Carol Lewerentz. The strong steady pitching of Preston Denolt and David Sandy plus good fielding by the whole team held All Flags to 9 runs, winning it 14 to 9. M&M Coachworks blazed to a 14 to 6 victory over Caes- area Fish, and Chips in Caesarea. Caesarea was off to an early lead but M&M "Cartwright Softball Scores nibbled away inning by inning to tie it in the 5th. M&M managed 8 runs in the 6th and only gave up one in 7th dousing Caesarea's hopes for a win. Pitching duties were split between Mike McDermit and Dave Dutkewick plus a team effort in the field were the ingred- ients for the win. Mike had his best game thus far with three home runs. Marlow Feeds and Breezy Acres played in Blackstock in a one sided game. It was a see-saw affair till the 4th inning when Marlow's broke loose and batted the troubled Breezy Acres till they tallied a total of 40 runs to Breezy Acres 26. Nestleton whips Port Perry by 8-2 count in Senior mens fastball by Danny Millar Port Perry Canadian Tire Men's Softball team looked tired in losing 8-2 to Nestle- ton on Sunday evening July 27. Port may have had an excuse; they had completed a 23 inning game in a tourna- ment earlier in the day. Tired or not, Port Perry did not impress. Nestleton righty, Randy McLeod sil- enced the opposition bats for all but one inning, the fourth. in which Port got its runs. Port opened the lead on Nestleton in the fourth. Robert Evans led off with a walk on four pitches. Mike Healey laid down a bunt and the Nestleton infielders went to second trying to get Evans but he beat the throw. 'Traffic deaths rise in Region A report released last week by the Durham Region works department shows that the number of traffic deaths on Regional roads increased dramatically in 1979 over the previous year. The reports show that 26 persons lost their lives on Regional Roads last year, a 19 per cent increase over the 21 who died the previous year. : The 1979 figure is the high- est for fatalities on Regional in the four years since 1976. The next highest was 24 in 1977, and the lowest was 15 in 1976. Durham. maintains 729 kilometers of Regional Roads, and there is a current population in Durham of about 270,000 people. The number of reported - accidents on Regional roads last year increased margin- ally by just over one per cent, from 2724 in 1978 to 2761 in 19795 The number of persons suffering injuries in these accidents also rose slightly from 1346 to 1373. All told in Durham last year, there were 6554 report- ed accidents on Regional roads, provincial highways and streets in the municipali- ties. By municipality, there were seven fatalities on Regional roads in Oshawa, five in Pickering, four in Newcastle, one in Ajax, three in 'Whitby, and two in both Scugog and Uxbridge Townships. Of. the 24 faialities last year, three were at signalled intersections, nine at inter- sections with either stop or yield signs, and one at a pedestrian cross walk. There were eleven fatali- ties, or just under 50 per cent, at what the report refers to as mid-block sections of the roads.
