He was a lad of 15 when the family moved into the house on Cochrane Street in 1925. Bill says his father had built and sold a couple of houses, and the family only intended to live in the present house for one winter. "But we stayed on, and have been here for the last 55 years," he said. The obvious question, of course is why has Bill decided now to sell the house which has been home for more than half a century, and part with the furnishings which 'have been in the family for over 100 years. "I guess it is just getting too big for me and my wife. We actually only live in half the house, and we go to Florida for six months of the year, anyway," he said. "We've had it for sale for three or four years. We didn't have to sell and we didn't want to sacrifice anything." We wanted to find the right buyer, too," he said. Once the auction is over and the new family has moved in at the end of this month, Bill says he plans to take a leisurely motor trip through Western Canada before heading to warmer climates for the winter months. He says he'll wait until next spring before buying another house, but it won't be in Port Perry. "Maybe in Oshawa or Whitby, I just.don't know at this time," he said. furniture g This section of the drawing room is dominated by full-length mirror and oil paintings The staircase railing is made from black walnut.
