20 -- PORT PERRY STAR-- Wed., August 13, 1980 Nestleton and area news by Mabel Cawker Nestleton Women's Institute On Wesnesday evening, August 6, Mrs. Bruce Heas- lip, Port Perry, was hostess for the regular monthly meeting of Nestleton Women's Institute. The Mary Stewart Collect was repeated in unison to open the meeting, then Pres- ident, Mrs. L. Malcolm, warmly welcomed the 16 members and 6 visitors present and read a poem entitled "Never Mind." Secretary Mrs. M. Firlit read the minutes and corres- pondence and gave an encouraging financial state- ment. The Roll Call, "Name a home remedy Grandma Used'proved enlightening. Goose grease, onion and mustard poultice, epsom salts, senna tea, etc. brought back childhood memories to a time before wonder drugs when the doctor was consult- ed only as a last resort. Leadership training school is to be held September 4,5 at Maple Grove. Slides on safety will be shown by Marilyn Sewell at our next meeting on Sept. 3. Conven- or Mrs. H. cLaughlin announced local farm slides will also be shown. Guests are expected from Hampton and Maple Grove Institutes. Blackstock Fair Exhibit committee are to meet at the president's home on Wed. August 13 at 2:00 p.m. Mrs. R. Davison reported concerning the Institute sponsored bus trip to Lind- say Kawartha Theatre Mat- inee performance of "Some of Those Days" on Wednes- day, August 27. This musical portrays early history of Victoria County. Some seats on the bus are still available. Family and Consumer Affairs Convenor, Mrs. D. Frew presented a fine pro- gram. The Motto was "If you treat a sick child like an adult, and a sick adult like a child everything usually turns out pretty well." A paper on general rules for healthful living was followed by the amusing poem on aging. "I'm fine, thank you'. A poem, "When I Have Time" and a comical reading on the pros and cons of the horse as an alternative to the car and means to save energy concluded the program. Following the Institute Grace and Mizpah Benedict- ion, a delicious lunch was served by the hostess Mrs. B. Heaslip and Mrs. N. Rohrer and her group. All enjoyed visiting and a social time. Mrs. F. Dayes voiced appre- ciation to the hostess and those responsible for the congenial gathering. Nestleton United ': On a fine Sunday morning at 11:15 a.m. a fairly good ' Subaru C & C MOTORS 160 Simcoe St. 8. Oshawa 728-0181 attendance for the service and a warm welcome to the interested visitors present. The sermon entitled, "What's the Secret' was delivered by our minister Rev. Victor Parsons with many splendid thoughts for all to take home. In the choir the congregation was favour- ed with a rendition of the favourite sacred number "God Hath Not Promised" sung by Miss - McLaughlin of Nestleton. Lynn is studying vocal and has a lovely clear voice. She was accompanied by organ- ist, Mrs. Gwen Malcolm. Offering was received by Messrs. Norm Mairs and Ralph Sadler. Next Sunday, August 17 try to attend the special annual Decoration Service held in memory of our loved ones, to be held at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Victor Parsons giving the message. A trio from Blackstock will provide the music. Nestleton Presbyterian Church On a bright and sunny morning at 10 a.m. Rev. Fred Swann based his sermon on a continuation of the Acts of the Apostles taking portions of Chapters 5 & 6 "Mr rendered a solo, "He Touch- ed Me" much to the enjoy- ment of those present. Mrs. Shirley Scott presided at the electric organ. As usual next Sunday at 10 Lynn® "Stanley McNeeley a.m. Everyone welcome. Trip of Interest Roy and Doris Nottingham Caesarea, and Gary and Margit Nottingham, Allen and Julie of Raglan, had a wonderful week's holiday at Shining Tree near New Liskeard, in the wilderness for a fishing expedition. The party was lucky and caught some beautiful fish -consist- ing mainly of pike and pick- erel. The Nottinghams took along their camper and cook- ed their meals which added greatly to the holiday. A real outing for a family! On the way home they called on a cousin-Mrs. Lion- el Peake at Sunridge. Social News Several Nestleton folks attended the Trousseau Tea on Sunday to honour Miss Mary Lou Malcolm, bride elect, at the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. Neil Malcolm of Blackstock. Mr. and Mrs. L. Malcolm, Nestleton and Miss Gail Malcolm, Blackstock were Thursday overnight guests with Mr. and Mrs. James Bilton and family of Lanark, Ontario.' On Sunday afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Grant Thompson, Mrs: David - Thompson, Nestleton, and Miss Crystal Fallis, Cadmus, visited with Mr. and Mrs. Adrian Hudson of Scugog Point. Mr. and Mrs. Grahame Fish visited Sunday with daughter Audrey and Jim Lishman, Jamie and Michael, Reaboro;' and the boys are spending a week with their grandparents at Nestleton. Mr. and Mrs. Fish also visited on Sunday with daughter Marlene and Victor Bannister, Keith, Karen, Vickie and Calvin of Omemee.. In the morning they went to East Oakwood Cemetery to decorate Net's Mother and Father's graves. Visiting at the Cawker farm Scugog Point during the past week were: Andy and Anne Cawker, Valerie and Andrea Lea of Oshawa, Mrs. June Carruthers and Paula of Stayner, Mrs. Norma Wilson, Duntroon, and the helpers with the hay, the Grant Cawkers of Oshawa.
