Police officer assaulted by motorist on Lilla St. - A Durham Region Police officer sustained a severely scratched eyeball, plus other injuries when assaulted late Wednesday night by a motor-: ist in a scuffle at a traffic light on Lilla Street. Police said Const. Jim Harmer, dressed in civilian cothes, was on his way to work in his own car when a van began tailgating him just north of town. When Harmer stopped for the light a man from the van ap- proached and punched him three times. Harmer will be off work for some time recovering from his injuries, police said. Charged with assault cau- sing bodily harm is Allan Wayne Lord, 35, of 812 Byron Street North, Whitby.
