Light Refreshments Avaiable. = Cartwright winds == down successful by Bob Hermann i The Cartwright Minor. | | Softball Association held its fourth annual awards and banquet night for both junior and senior division on Sept. 3rd and Sept. 5th respective- ly. This year the awards program was fashioned after the Olympics in the manner of gold, silver and bronze medallions, thus allowing a greater number of kids an attribute for a season of hard work. All participants, players, coaches, scorekeepers, executive and umpires, received their appropriate crests with the first place team in both divisions crest- ed with the word champs. The presentation of awards were as follows. In the Junior Division Marj. Tripp Real Estate in 3rd place and winners of the bronze medallion; Don Frew and Sons Ltd. in 2nd place and winners of the silver medallion and finally the team that placed 1st in the regular season and won their way through the playoffs, the champs, of Thompson's Vill- age Market. Each player was present- players trophy. The team trophy was donated by Marj. Tripp Real Estate and was pre- sented to coach Doug Staple- ton by Doris Clark. The evening ran smoothly and was organized and M.C.'d by Junior President Kerry Umphrey. At the Senior banquet the format was pretty much the same. President Orval Quackenbush M.C'd the evening with opening com- mentary containing notes of thanks to all participants, parents and league sponsors. The teams were then call- ed upon to receive their ed with his_gold_medallion- awards and crests with the coaches introducing and con- gratulating each player. The gold, silver and bronze medallions were given to the finalists of the playoff rounds with All Flags Shell placing 3rd and recipient of the Bronze medallion, 2nd place and the silver medallion went to Port Perry Kinsmen and lastly the gold medallion awarded to the Champion- ship team of Haines' Esso. The team was presented with a team trophy donated by Sportsland of Port Perry and presented by owner «; George Legere to coach Wayne Malcolm and pitcher Preston Denolt. The mood of both banquets was one of anticipation, ex- citement but foremost sportsmanship as winners and non winners alike w applauded each others efforts for the season. Cartwright had baseball fever this season as was evident in the increase in registration from last year's 115 to this year's 190 kids. ¥ In closing I would like to say that I personally found great satisfaction in doing game coverage, coaching and helping out wherever <Q :possible-in-a-program=which -- I feel is beneficial to our vo youth of Cartwright.
