BEAN ALN Regi d JIE Ue SR LEAF Scugog Island and area news by Mrs. Earl Reader Here we are into Sept. and what a difference it makes in our lives! After a happy care free summer we settle down again to school, enum- eration, church, Sunday School, U.C.W., youth groups in the Scout movement and plans for fall activities. Therefore check this column for notices, etc. Already we have a few reminders as follows: Thurs 7:30 p.m. Junior Choir, and § - p.m. Sr. Choir practise in preparation for Manchester Anniversary. Sept. 21 Brow- nies and Guides are register- ing Monday Sept. 8 and Brownies will meet Wednes- day Sept. 10 at 4 p.m. Sunrise Beach has its Fun Day, Sat. Sept. 13. Be sure to patronize it. If you wish tickets for the community dance on Saturday Sept. 20 please contact Beth Heayn or Janis Richardson. And then there is the Turkey Supper by the Head U.C.W. on Wed, Sept, 24th. If you wish tickets for 5,6,7 don't delay to call a member or your correspondent. They are moving fast. Any girls who are 12 years old by Sept. 1 may join the 4H group this year by phoning Mrs. Ralph Hortop or Mrs. _ Rodney Chandler. The theme for study and applica- tion will be Your Corner of the World, meaning your bedroom. The Island Sunday School needs a long narrow table to seat 8 small children of the Nursery Dept. Two small tables might serve even better if anyone has some not being used that you could donate. They also need stacking seats similar to those in doctors' waiting rooms. If you can help with this please contact Mrs. Robt, Cawker. On Sunday, the Island Church attendance began to soar when many of the child- ren returned. Then we real- ized how we had missed them. Many of the baptized babies are now old enough to start Sunday School and help will be appreciated in the nursery class. The children who returned on Sunday passed through the promot- ion garden gate and were welcomed by their new teachers. Jan Gerrow with Seniors 12 to 14, Wilma John- son with juniors 9 to 11, then there is-a primary, kinder- garten and nursery. Some of the former teach- ers are entering other de- partments of training so others are needed to help. The Baptismal Font is pre- _atchewan. pared and will probably be presented by the donors for dedication on Sept. 28. The same day the Sunday School will have prepared a Rally Day service so it is hoped everyone will be back. The Head U.C.W. met last Wed. evening at the Island Hall with 17 members pres- ent, Several members were unable to attend because of various ailments. The topic for study was Wisdom. For roll call the members related their activities of the summer. A card of apprec- iation for a gift was received from Don Gerrow who has collected a few ailments this summer. All were happy to again welcome Bonnie's mother from Estavan, Sask- Mrs. Stephen's bright smiles make us wonder why we have the nerve to complain.
