Blackstock and by Joyce Kelly On Monday evening the School 'Accomodation Committee regarding the future of Cartwright High School presented its report to the Durham Board of Education. Everyone was delighted that this report recommending that our local school will remain open was unanimously passed by the Board. Furthermore, the members of the Board were impressed by the report regarding the excellent per- formance of our school and its graduates. The Senior Citizens Euchre Party was held on Tuesday, Sept. 23rd with 18 tables and the following results: 1. Fran Gibson-91; 2. Margaret Wright-88; 3. Carl Gimblett-87; 4. Art Bailey-87; 5. Doris Rohrer- 85; 6. Dorothy McDiarmid- 85; Low-Edna Vivian. The 50-50 draw was won by Earl Prescott. Mr. and Mrs. Doug McMillan and family of Prince Albert were Sunday guests of her mother, Mrs. Ella Venning. Dave Larmer is home on a leave of absence from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, Essex until December. 4-H Group held its meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 23rd with 14 members present. After President, Marilyn Green, opened the meeting with the 4-H pledge the leaders talked about macrame. We then started with our macramed plantholder. ,The meeting was then adjourned - until next week. Mrs. Andrea Weir has recently returned from a fabulous trip. through Germany, Austria, Italy, France and Switzerland. The conducted part of the trip visited five countries in nine days. Needless to say, Andrea reports that she had a wonderful time. The United Church Auction has been reschedul- ed for Oct. 25th at the Malmont Sales Arena. The family of Mrs. Margaret Argue helped her to cele- brate her 96th birthday by a dinner at the Heritage Res- taurant, Bowmanville on September 13th. On her birthday, September 16th the day was spent with her daughters at the home of Mrs. Marion Hodge. Friends and neighbours visited during the day. Hearty congratulations, Mrs. Argue. An election took place and the results were President - Tracy Staniland, secretaries - Tara Bailey and Karen Kyte and treasurer - Joy Werry. The leaders of the 4-H group are Mrs. Valerie MacDonald and Mrs. Donna Kyte. The them for the 4-H No. 1 group is "Your Corner of the World - Your Bed- room." Sympathy to Mrs. Doug Benns on the recent passing of her grandmother. The 4-H 3 and 4 met at the Recreation Centre on Tues- day, September 15 and were led by Mrs. Peggy Larmer and Mrs. Betty Lee. There were 15 members present and the meeting was started. Mrs. Lee outlined the course and the macrame. Mrs. Larmer then took over to proceed with the lesson in Meeting 1. Thirty -grade nine students, suitably clad for the occasion of initiation, were paraded up and down main street, Blackstock.
